My question is concerning a switch located on the battery. Should I have the red dot showing to use or slide the tab to have it not showing?

I assume one way is for storage and one for using, not sure which.

If the "switch" is anything like the switches on the Duo batteries, it does nothing electrical. Its only purpose is to allow the user to set a reminder of the state of the battery. If for instance you had two or more batteries you could decide that whenever a battery becomes discharged you would set the switch to the red dot. And after it is charged you can set the switch to cover the red dot. Then a quick glance would tell you which of your batteries were good to go and which needed to be recharged.
