Those are Putin's KGB bots. They try to use this website as a launch platform for their imaginary drones. They are here one moment and gone the other.

Dangerous tech that is!

Someone has to be feeding the AI bots. Might as well be us ;)

Only 300 "guests" at the time of this posting.

I can recall back (4 or 5 weeks or so) when there was on average 4 -10 (if lucky) guests per day. :P

Hey! Some of you guests! Log in and say hello. We won't bite. Honest ;)

I would imagine the extra big hits would impact this site by simply eating up server time and running up band width costs. For a site that relies on hits to attract advertisers like a news or social site a 1000%+ uptick in visits would be a big confusion to the sites metrics.

I am not sure what I think about AI bots. Some AI uses seem quite useful. DuckDuckGo now has a "smart summary" at the top of a search query and in the case of a simple question that "smart summary" is all you really need, which from the user perspective is a very nice feature. Of course poets and authors say the smart summary is generated off their intellectual property. Big debate over what is shared general knowledge and what is proprietary knowledge. I guess I tend to see proprietary knowledge as knowledge that others have not discovered yet, and with the march of time all knowledge becomes shared general knowledge.

3000+ yesterday.

This does seem somewhat extreme.

Based on a recent analysis 60%+ of all Internet traffic is bot based these days.

AI is supposed to be the big thing (besides the next war) that'll surely pull us all out of recession. :O

And yeah, those data harvesters need to go somewhere for feeding. More and more websites these days have "proof you are human" gatekeepers installed. Most of them not really challenging enough to stop a modern day AI bot. But sites like system7 or the Garden are utterly unprotected against such "content drain".

So I recon that - just like ticks - those bots prefer to go where the next meal can be had the easiest.

Folks, this is the new normal. AI is the fool's gold of the 21st century. Even a country like Germany - who can't produce electricity at an affordable price for its traditional mainstay industries - subsidizes server farms at a ridiculous rate.

Anyone who can afford it is building himself up as many of those as his electricity grid can afford. And then they send their bots out to harvest every-single-webpage they stumble upon. Day-in and day-out.

Even those Captcha challenges can't stop them anymore. Not sure how to protect against that from here on out.
