I have a ZuluScsi, whose design is based on (and shares some code with) the BlueScsi, and it has a jumper for "initiator mode", which will automagically clone a drive to an sd card if it is plugged in (ie no computer). Not all the BlueScsi/ZuluScsi boards support this, only newer ones do...but a LOT more plug and play! (In theory not needing a modern machine...) |

I've started a retro compatible site for BlueSCSI related links/files/etc here: http://retro.bluescsi.com/ Has a web (http), ftp, gopher (though I need to adjust the layout, mirror the web for now), links to many retro sites (such as this one). It's just a start for now - let me know if there's any other things I should include or if there's something needing fixing (I'm sure there is) I'll need to adjust the styling for the docs but it is automatically mirrored now for your http viewing pleasure.

Wohooo, very cool project @nulleric! And thanks for linking to us! (how about adding cornica.org for Quicktime goodies and retrosearch.org as FrogFind alternative too?) I specifically love the plans to add Gopher. Way to go! Please keep us updated on future changes if you can. I'm using the BlueSCSI WiFi in my IIci almost daily and it's an amazing piece of hardware!

Getting one of these in the post soon. Had to go for the external and WiFi options - who wouldn't want the novelty of playing with that on vintage machines? Will see how it goes with my Mac SE, 6200 and Amiga. I'm pretty thrilled to get all three systems covered by the one peripheral.

So the takeaway is that our nostalgia for the original Mac Classic is vastly different than the more consumerist appeal of today, where trading up to the next big thing is pretty much all we got, and that's across the board for all mobile and computer tech gadgetry (outside of scoring dirt-cheap refurbished items to eek out a bit more of used tech.. equivalent to the modern day swap meets and thrift stores I suppose, just all online in that regard) all the while, we continue filling our landfills with literally tons obsoleted tech; sigh..
