got my new wicked wallpaper off it! http://revontulet.org/2024/04/15/494905a65c8d437195c6d02531ce4d6e.jpg although it hasnt been updated since 2010 so someone with the time (not me unfortunatley) should make a archive of the wallpapers on the site before it goes down its been around at least 25 years and has wallpapers spanning that time! |

That is sweet! I loved Panther. I actually liked the aesthetic of it more than Tiger, but I reluctantly upgraded to Tiger back then because it was more useful and compatible with stuff. Edit: I checked the first 60+ wallpapers I found, and they were all archived so far, so I think there's a good chance the entire site has been archived. I'm checking the "Animation" category. I'll go down the list of categories in the order of A-Z, but it'll take me a long time to check all of them. I'm only making sure the highest resolution wallpapers are archived, since they can be reduced in size to fit smaller screens.

I do not think that wallpapers were much of a thing for the original Macs. Until System 7 applications with the exception of desk accessories were largely all full screen. On the compact Mac if you are looking at wallpaper it is a rather save bet to assume you are not doing any work. Wallpapers as decoration came into being with the modular color machines and really only gained ground with the arrival of System 7. For me personally I never moved to System 7 with my SE/30 and was content to stick with System 6. For the most part the workflow I acquired on compact Macs remains my workflow to this day. One of the reasons for moving to Linux was that Linux easily supports multiple desktops, so I could run my applications full screen each application on its own workspace. Mac OS X gained multiple workspace, but for me it was not until El Captain that it was really fully functional. So I have a few applications open all full screen running on their own full desktop, and I still believe that if you are looking at the wallpaper you are not doing any work, open and app and get busy.
