Just wanted to share something with you - Silicon Insider based in France makes NEW RAM (and VRAM) modules specifically tailored for our old Macs. Today I've received my second order from him (2x 1 MB of VRAM for the 7500). Both newly made modules cost me 46 euros including shipping, so he's not even trying to make a fortune out of this. I found all his stuff to be of high quality, his 4 MB RAM modules have been running reliably in my IIci for 2+ years by now. I know he has also quietly been working on some 1 MB L2 cache modules, although nothing is finished yet. (those are pretty rare and go for crazy prices at times) His shop can be found over at Tindie.com (modern browser needed) In no way am I affiliated with him, but I thought I'd share that with you in case you're a European (shipping prices to other world regions might be a bit sharp) and you are looking for NEW RAM. |

I had seen his VRAM on ebay, but found some from another seller far cheaper. I didn't know he made other upgrades, though, so thanks for the link.

I would love it if he also made NEW CPU daughtercards with a "swappable" CPU socket in them, too, and NEW motherboards for those, as well.  He wouldn't need to worry about the firmware/ROMs, he could leave those to the buying customer to do the flashing so he wouldn't need to worry about any legal concerns like that.I'm just projecting my wishes here, though.

Great Jatoba! Did you get any answer yet? Neal, I think SiliconInsider is aiming for the beige early 90s boxes, nothing for your iMac G3 there :-) ... but then RAM for the iMac G3 is still rather easy (by comparison) to find.

I do like how he's making new RAM modules for the older Macs. In addition, they're beautiful. They'd look great in a clear case. I've thought about making RAM modules over the past several years. I know digital electronics, but electronic PCB/schematic software is kind of tricky, mainly because a lot of times you have to custom make your own chip schematics, since there are so many different types that they can't possibly put them all into one program. And it never fails that custom-made chips quite often have net errors or something about them is incompatible with how the nets and connections work in the programs. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Schematics themselves are not hard to make, just time-consuming.

Quite nice to see this considering RAM for these machines is getting harder to find. If only I could find cheap 64MB 5V EDO DIMMs for my 6400... I don't want to pay $60 for those...
