Radeon 7000 is a very powerful card. My newly acquired 5400 with a 400Mhz Sonnet card is a very powerful computer. I want to combine these things INTERNALLY without cables or unsightly holes to get the internal CRT driven by the Radeon 7000.

Stay Tuned.

Sounds like a great project, looking forward to your updates. If it works, perhaps I'll consider it for my 5500...

I saw elsewhere that you are planning on using the TV tuner card in your 5400 or 5500. If so, don't waste your time with this mod. The PCI bus is too slow to shuttle all of the video data to the 7000 fast enough. You'll get extremely choppy video.

I am definetely looking forward to it.  JoAT is probably right about the video capture though.  Of course, the 400mhz G3 upgrade may help this a bit.

The video capture feature is WAY down the list on things that need to get done for this computer. But the internal video card is PCI too isnt it? So What's the difference between the onboard PCI video card and the R7000 PCI video card?

For the life of me, I cannot find the articles now where they discuss the video problems with the Apple TV/Video software and a PCI video card. (Been Google-ing my ass off!) Needless to say that I only tested it myself so far as live TV over the TV tuner card. Dropped frames all over the place. I cannot recall if it affects the capture of the video or playing of already ripped videos.

If you haven't gone yet, I suggest you head over to The 6400 Zone and check out all the great info over there regarding the 5400/5500/6360/6400/6500 family of Macs. Loads of good info (and lots of butchery of the english language). There are varying reports of whether Radeon and Radeon 7000 work properly in a 6500s. And since a 5500 is basically a 6500 in an all-in-one case...

You can start with this helpful link: Radeon Info for 6500 Owners
