So this idea is simple but profound: to assemble boot disk images with specific program collections, like one for everything relating to music, another pure productivity, another all about design, another B/W games, another of arcade-style games like Myst, others with varying levels of educational titles, one just for programmers, yet another could be everything Internet and similar collections. These could then be tested, things could be added and so on.

68040's 'Master Disc' gave me the inspiration! ;)

Could you point me to a good boot disk image with a slimmed down System 7 install for my vMac emulator?

Maybe some install CD so I could try to set it up myself? (not sure if vMac supports booting from an ISO image).

Interesting idea. I remember your Covid project. Which also fell into this category somewhat? Liked it :-) disk images surely help to cut down the time of individually downloading everything.

On the other hand, the problem with such "collections" is that they are highly individual due to their nature. One might totally love the selection, others might think that 50% of it is a bad pick. And then the sheer amount in some category (e.g. System  7 games) is also very intimidating. You'll just end up with another archive of 600 games, essentially mirroring 60% of the Mac Garden's game category.

arcade-style games like Myst
I'm sure you meant adventure games, do you? Or else I'd be really interested in seeing how you play Myst :-D

Ha ha, I guess I would have loved to have seen Myst's beautiful scenery applied in some form to a few Mac games, but the rest of the list gives a more accurate picture, along with Maelstrom (I think there was a good Ms. Pac-Man variant?) and even others ;)

So again, still a somewhat subjective view, we could even do a few polls (then a few more lol) on favorite games, apps, tools and such (speaking of, anyone ever play Toxic Ravine or Biorhythms? This second one wasn't any of the ones I found in the MG, it had several screens (maybe it was a Hypercard game? It was black and white but more of a zen, soothing, chill and entertaining game [or pastime?] of sorts?)

And yes, a more focused set (I'm thinking 68k to keep things smaller, more compatible and thus saner) of the original image idea from 2020, since I know some like it all (like 68040), others have more of the media flare, granted a more popular area (practically all of us here lol), productivity - that one should be easy enough since (without huge dictionaries) it should occupy that much room lol! :D

Plus, the idea is to merely provide a foundation with a few of the favorites in each image to keep them from bulging at the seams, then both the installed and runner-ups could be listed in a small text file with all their download locations in case someone dumps a title prematurely for any reason. Ultimately this could lead to more peeps discovering (or rediscovering) the joys of Classic Macs! :)

Now if any could be hosted like these two (which need a modern browser):

Wow, wouldn't that be something!! 8)
