Hello World

unfortunately Xtree no longer works on B-II for Linux (it used to just fine on Basilisk-II for Android).

Anybody know of a decent replacement for it?

Phew, that's a tough question. I haven't seen anything similiar and nobody ever dared porting DOpus from the Amiga to the Mac :-)

Sorry, can't help you out on this one.

No worry Bolkonskij, I helped myself already.

DiskTop in combination with SyncPro gives me everything from a FileManager that the Finder doesn't. So I am actually improving myself here.   ;-)

PS: Still testing out Power Merge as well. Not sure yet which to prefer.

What does it offer you that you need that the Finder doesn't?

This is an serious question, I'm really curious? Personally, I haven't felt the urge to try something like XTree but I can imagine it's good if you're used to that kind of file handling and/or work with a lot of files.

I am a power hoag, meaning I take no pitty on my virtual Mac, just because its running decades old software. So I quite often find myself copying gigabytes of data (specially now, that I moved to a more recent B-II build) and it happens every now and then, that the Finder doesn't finish the job. So the copy process terminates and when I try to restart it Finder only leaves me the choice to either cancel the copy job or start it from scratch (no "replace single files" option there).

Given that I run on flash/SD card memory here, rewritting the same ton of files over and over again doesn't sound like too smart a concept to me.
Sync Pro and Power Merge (albeit not perfect) offer me the option to continue interrupted transfers - which is invaluable once you start dealing with hundreds if not thousands of files.

I supersized my HFS+ Data drive to 16GB for now and if I feel like it, I might just add a '0' to that figure ;-) After all, I am working off a terrabyte SDXC card here. So being able to "pick & choose" when moving huge directory trees is most definetely an advantage.
