well i upgraded the memory in the 7600 and installed the 400 mhz g3 card and the sonnet software.

i put 9.1 and 8.1 on the 7600 and I must admit i was very disappointed the 7100 running 7.6.1 feels so much faster.  I will have to rate both  machines and get back to you all with the results.

i may blow 8.1 off and put 7.6.1 on

I am not sure if i can my drive has 2 partitions  one hfs and one hfs+

at this point the only difference is interleaved memory and 40 mhz vs a 50 mhz bus in the 7600

Were you expecting something other than what you experienced?

yes I guess so?  not sure what to expect.  I remember wanting to buy one of these brutes back in the day.

other than av capabilities, more memory slots and pci slots.  Not a lot of performance increase especially with the g3 cpu upgrades in both

the 7100 has s video out I may set it up as a juke box into the stereo system and use the s video out to the tv for a monitor when needed it should rout through my sony es8ga

Even my Kanga running 9.1 feels slow to me.

Mac OS 9 just doesn't feel good unless its a really fast G3 or G4.

I've never liked Mac OS 9.   I ran it on my old iMac.   It was the originally installed OS on my old beige G3, too.   My old iMac has since gone to computer Heaven.   (Er, being what it was, I'm sure the old girl is in Purgatory or Hell.)  My old beige G3 now runs Mac OS 8.6 quite nicely.
