Hardware / What is the oldest Mac you use daily?
July 20, 2012, 04:15 |
A 2005 Mac Mini. Not sure how long it will be in daily use, a 2011 Mac Mini is being set up to replace it. |

New Member Welcome / Hello

I've never heard of anyone wanting to collect Dell's, HP's, Compaq's and so on. I still have all my Mac's ( 8 of them). You'll need to link pics of your setup when complete. |

As for a new battery, I'll get one from Batteries Plus. It's local and about the same price -shipping. I'll still use the mini for daily use, it has all of my adobe stuff on it. I still love my 1400, but it's limited in what I want to do, not be plugged in. |

Hardware / Your most current Mac

I just got a MacBook Pro. 13 inch with 2.53processor and 4 gb memory. It's nice. I finally got to the point where I got tired of having to find an outlet with my powerbook 1400's. I'll still keep them so I can play my old games, marathon, doom, and a few others. I was using it weekly or more as of last week. With the ppc starting to loose support, I also just wanted a new Mac. It's been 5 years. This is now number 8 and I still have all of my Macs and they all work. |

Off Topic Discussion / Classilla 9.1 released
March 04, 2010, 06:15 |
This looks interesting. I've read the documentation on the main classila site. I run a PB 1400 with a 333G3 sonnet card with 64 mb ram and 8.6 and I've got a 20gb hdd installed. So what would be the best settings for the memory? |

My newest Mac is 2005 mini with 1.42Ghz G4. Just upgraded the ram to 1 gig, way easier than expected. I still use a G3 upgraded PowerBook 1400cs. It's batteries are dead, can replace them just don't feel like at the moment. It's my main machine when I'm on the go. I use it for writing, Photoshop 5 with a Wacom tablet for doodling. If it wasn't for modern browsing needs, I'd still be using my iMac G3 400 regulary. The pc I have is set up with win98se and is in a corner gathering dust. My classic Macs are fast and work great, I just can't justify anything newer. |

Off Topic Discussion / 2d side scrolling game software
October 17, 2009, 07:08 |
I was thinking of making a video game. A few years ago I got one of the Mac Addict cd's that had a demo for 2d side scrolling game making. I can't find the cd or locate it on the internet. It's a os x cd. If anyone can help it would be appreciated. |

Operating System / PB 1400 and Memory Cards
October 15, 2009, 04:13 |
Interesting. I've never had a problem. I just initialized the card on the 1400 then I didn't have to really worry about any compatiblity issues. I use a 16mb and a 2gb card almost daily. The 1400 is the only laptop I have and if it wasn't for modern web stuff I wouldn't even have the mini I use. The fix is a great resource incase there are any issues I have. Now would a newer logic board solve this too? |

My newest mac is a 4 year old mini. Never had to have the system software reinstalled, works great and will be used for years. My imac is a grey 400. Would still be using it if when I wanted to upgrade all my web and graphics software to adobe cs2 from ps 5. I was using a pc I built as well. I still use my 1400's (3 of them) regularly since I've found this site and maxed out their abilities. This site is a great resource and thanks to Dan for all of his hard work. The next time I upgrade my macs will be if the mini dies or I can't use anything on it. Every thing old has a place, and it's still fun to go into a coffee shop and hook up a 1400 to the wifi with all those pc users looking at me like I was crazy. OS X is more than I need or use, but everyday, I do find it harder and harder to break out the 1400 running, 7.6.1 or 8.6 as needed. |

I had them rebuild it with what was in the battery originally. According the husband he says I had a coupon for 50% off rebuilds. I had it done xmas'07. So he may not be quoting you high. |

We have a place in town called Batteries Plus, they can replace batteries in pretty much any thing. I had them rebuild the battery for a 1400 for $30. I get about 4 hours out of it. I also do the monthly cycleing on them. |

Hardware / Powerbook 1400 Screens

It's not that hard. A lot easier if you have the plastics with the screen. Be patient and look for lot's of screws. |
