Hardware / Install System Software unusable (7.6 on a PowerBook 190cs)
April 28, 2007, 06:37 |
Quote from: "dpaanlka" You can try starting up the PowerBook, then inserting the floppy, and use "Disk First Aid" to check for any errors on the effected disk. Thanks for that suggestion. At first I was thinking that if the disk was corrupt, it was unusable, so what good was this, but when I tried it, sure enough, the disk verified just fine. Ok, something else must be throwing a spanner in the works. For some reason (probably I saw it somewhere) I decided to turn off file sharing. Low and behold, the installation process went through disk 6...... Then an error report. I tried again with fewer options selected. Got through disk 7. Tried again with no additional software selected. Made it through all 19 floppies. I'm now on 7.6! I'm charging a new battery tonight, but tomorrow I'll see about upgrades to 7.1 and then ethernet communication. The saga continues........ Dick H |

Hardware / Install System Software unusable (7.6 on a PowerBook 190cs)

Quote from: "dpaanlka" That means one of the files required for installation on that floppy is corrupted. This is a pretty common way of floppies failing. Thanks for the reply Dan. The existing system is 7.5.2. I'm trying to go to 7.6 - that's what the floppies were for. So you're saying that I wasted my money on them. Darn. Well, I guess I go shopping for a CD and figure out how to get those files into the PowerBook (which has no CD, or course. Dick |

Hardware / Install System Software unusable (7.6 on a PowerBook 190cs)

That's the short version of the error that I get when trying to install. The PowerBook has system 7.5.2 on it. System Enabler 1.2.1. I've installed extra memory so there is 40 meg available. The HD is internal (ATA 0, v3.03) with 124 MB on disk (130,000,000 used). I purchased floppy's from ebay. They came in a set of 7 plastc bags - all still sealed. They are "white" themed and look to me like the real deal. Apple logo on the plastic bags and sequencial numbers that look legitimate to me. After plugging in the power adapter, I put the "Install Me First" floppy in the drive and the PowerBook boots from the floppy. I go through the first three processes of installation, just fine including checking the drive to update the driver. However, when I start the process to Install the software, I get the following message: *********** Installer document "Install System Software" is unusable for installation. An error was detected before installation began. Make sure you are using the original Installer disks. *********** I'm stumped. I tried several different install choices all with the same result. I specified a clean install, I chose an option to install only the system software - none of the combinations yielded anything but the above error message. Suggestions greatly appreciated.
