1 Software / Re: TCP/IP Dropout
March 13, 2025, 18:06
I don't think it's the http traffic controlling the router. The lights on the router indicate 1) that there is a link and 2) that there is traffic over that port. These lights illuminate upon the first request for the URL, but then turn off subsequently as if the physical link is broken. That's why I think it has something to do with the way the OS is handling the TCP/IP stack at this point. In the TCP/IP control panel with Administrator mode enabled, I have selected to keep the connection active always rather than only when needed. Still no luck. I'm thinking perhaps I should repost this under the OS forum. Also wondering if OpenTransport is installed and causing a MacTCP conflict.

3 Software / TCP/IP Dropout

Hello. When using the internet over ethernet on my PB3400 whether in iCab or Netscape, I can navigate to the home page of a site just fine e.g. system7today.com. However, trying to navigate to subsequent pages e.g. the Applications page on system7today.com the connection drops out. I can see on the router that the lights are no longer on. I have to restart the computer for it to make a new connection. Does anyone have any suggestions?
4 Operating System / Re: OS7.6 Date Issue

*Update*
In case anyone should need it, either here or on another forum, a user posted information about an app called Burn for modern MacOS that allows you to burn optical media in OS7-compatible HFS format (and several others as well). I was able to burn the patch to a disc and install it onto my PB3400.

6 Operating System / OS7.6 Date Issue
July 03, 2024, 23:19
I've asked some folks on here before who swear that OS 7.6 has date compatibility as is, however, I'm running 7.6 on my PB3400 and it doesn't allow dates past 2019. IIRC I need to download the 7.6.1 update because it doesn't have this problem, but I can't connect due to the system time being incorrect. Any suggestions? Thanks!

9 Hardware / Re: Quadra 700 OS 7 Installation

Thank you both for your replies. So I made a mistake. In fact, I have System 7.0 media not 7.1. What I have is the 9-disc System 7 install kit. In the same box is also a networking disk as well as hypercard and some other stuff. I looked online and didn't see any mention of there being a special OS 7 version for the Quadra 700 which I understand was the case for some other Macs. I do have a SCSI CD-ROM drive with which I can successfully boot off my OS 7.6 CD. Nevertheless, I would really like to get OS 7 installed. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
10 Hardware / Quadra 700 OS 7 Installation
December 06, 2022, 09:32
Greetings. I have a Quadra 700 that currently has OS 8 installed. I want to install OS 7.1 on a separate partition; however, whenever I try to install from the genuine Apple floppy disk set I have for OS 7.1 I get a message that says the OS version is incompatible with the machine. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? I know the Quadra 700 was compatible with OS 7.1.

Greetings. I have seen the 2020 patch for OS 7.6. Does anyone know if it will also patch OS 8?
