Off Topic Discussion / installing os 8.6 onto pb3400c

i got hold of a red os 8.6 cd (from an old imac i think) this disc says it is bootable by holding down c, but i have not been able to boot from it on my 3400c.. occasionally gets to the start up screen then ejects disc. in addition i cannot install from the disk in the finder under os 9.1 either - gives me an error like disk utility cannot be opened or something... any suggestions? just a dud cd? cheers george |

i have a pb3400 running 9.1 and an iMac running tiger. have had no problems setting up file sharing using the chooser under classic but have had a strange problem where the server "unexpectedly closes down" all the time. any ideas? george |

Hardware / 3400c faulty pcmcia

i have just got a new (old) 3400c with lots of memory etc but to my dismay i have discovered that the pcmcia slot is faulty. when in insert cards they *occasionally* work but more often the system hangs, mouse freezes. sometimes when the card is mechanically ejected the mouses comes back to life and the system carries on like nothing has happened. any ideas? for the record i took the machine apart and located a small square vertical card which sits behind the pcmcia eject buttons , this had fallen off. unfortunately replacing it with the identical part from another black PB did not fix the problem. cheers george |

something im missing? the compatibility table at apple website doesnt mention the pb3400c (stops at 5300). can i still use system 7? cheers. george |
