3 Software / SpeedDoubler 8 from s7t doesn't work

Hi,
I've downloaded the SpeedDoubler 8 installer from system 7 today (http://download.system7today.com/speeddoubler8.sit.hqx) on my PC and burned it on a cd. I've transferred the file to my mac and double cliked it - which extreacted a file called SpeedDoubler.sit from it. Unfortunatly, that file had no resource fork, which I created using ResEdit (type SIT! creator SITD). Afterwards, while trying to open that file using stuffit expender, it said the archive was curropted and could not be opened. The procdure on the speed doubler 8.1.2 updater worked fine and extracted the directory with the executables.
How can I get the sd8 installer to work as well?

Thanks,
Ido.

Added Realtek PCI Ethernet Drivers to the Help Center.

Can you post it in a format that can be downloaded by a PC without messing it up?

My only way of transfering files to my mac(s) is bruning a cd on the PC, and the only files that survive the transition are .sit.bin files.

9 Software / mounting .dc42 files?

What is on these old disks, anyway?

The .dsk one is an installation of os 7.5 with a couple of hunderet megabytes of old software (which I would like to use).

The .dc42 is speed doubler 8.

BTW there is a windows software called gemexplorer that can mount .dsk files, and I've managed to browes my .dsk file with it. If there exists a windows app that does that - there must be a macintosh one as well.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps the Type/Creator code of the file is borked. My recommendation would be to download ResEdit -- from the File menu select Get File/Folder Info, navigate to the image and select Get Info. On the window that comes up, make sure the Type is "dImg" (case-sensitive) and the Creator is "dCpy" (also case-sensitive). Close the window and save changes. If these weren't correct before, Disk Copy should see your disk image now. Hope it works!

OK, I will try that.

While we're on the subject - what would be the correct values for .dsk images?

12 Operating System / Help: formating hfs+ drives using os 7.6 drive setup

When you go into drive setup, you have to do change your initialization settings to repartion the drive in addition to initializing it.  You need to set it to repartition the drive as a single Macintosh format drive, which means HFS Standard.

The OS 7.6 finder(not the drive setup program) sees the drive correctly as a 4GB drive and it is full functional as a one 4GB partition.

The OS 7.6 drive setup can't do anything with the drive (says it isn't supported).

When I use the OS 8 drive setup program, I can initialize and partition it, but for some reason it only see the drive as 16mb big.

Apart from the HFS+ / 2Gb HFS limit, Drive Setup not recognizing the drive makes me thinking that maybe your disk isn't Apple branded.

You are right, I think my drive is not apple branded.
14 Operating System / Help: formating hfs+ drives using os 7.6 drive setup
June 26, 2006, 21:44
Hi,
I have a SCSI HDD that held os 8.6 until recently, and I wanted to now partition it & format as hfs & install os 7.6 on it.

The problem is - I can't partition it with the drive setup program that comes with os 7.6- it says the drive is not supported.

How can I partition this drive?

Also, it is a 4GB drive and the mac os 7.6 installer sees only 2GB.

Thanks in advance,
Ido.

Why wouldn't Disk Copy 6 open this?

It should be able to. The Disk Copy 6 Quick Reference suggests that it can, but I haven't been able to test it.

I tried it with Disk Copy 6 & Disk Copy 4.2, to no avail.

When I click on "load image file..." and browse to the directory in which the .dc42 file is located, I can't select it, because only subdirectories are shown (the .dc42 file isn't even displayed on the file selector menu).

I don't have mac os x in order to use the utility decribed and transform it into a more modern image file.

I only have os 7.6 & 8.6.

What can I do?
