Shattered Steel
|
1 to 16 players. |
?? |
PowerMac Only.
CD-ROM. |
The year is 2132. The human race has grown at an incredible rate as space exploration and colonization have become a reality. Huge mining and manufacturing corporations compete in the pillage of the resources on the new worlds. It has become necessary for the corporations to hire heavily armored individuals to protect their investments. These individuals employ a Planet Runner - a machine developed specifically to navigate the harsh terrain of alien worlds, while carrying the firepower of a light armored division and the defensive strength of a small battalion. Capable of mass destruction, they are one man armies.
The adrenaline-pounding missions vary from intense hack-n-slash combats, to guarding critical buildings and convoys, to destroying enemy supply lines and key installations. Each mission requires tactical decisions of weaponry (over 25 blazing armaments, including: gatling guns, guided missiles, fuel-air mortars, and plasma cannons) while gauging the Planet Runner's speed, shield and reactors.
All missions take place in true 3D, over a fully navigable, ultra-realistic, voxel-rendered terrain that simulates any natural geography. Inflict real-time terrain damage on the environment when tactical nukes blast huge holes in the landscape, leaving pits of burned out wreckage in their wake.
Shattered Steel includes 50 single-player missions, plus 15 multi-player missions - supporting up to 16 players, with anarchy death matches and team play (or cooperate to complete the entire game). This is not some wimpy simulation. This is fast and furious total 3D action!
- 50 adrenaline- pounding missions plus 15 multi-player missions
- Real time terrain damage on a fully navigable, ultra- realistic terrain
- Up to 16 player network battles, anarchy death matches and team missions plus head-to-head modem warfare
- Over 30 aggressive 3D alien predators animated in real- time
- Over 25 armaments including gatling guns, guided missiles, fuel-air mortars and plasma cannons

Spaceward Ho! 4.0.5 | 1 to 20 players. |
AppleTalk.
Crossplatform! |
Any Color Mac. |
The goal of Spaceward Ho! is to conquer the galaxy. You start out on a single, heavily populated planet. You have just become capable of building your first interstellar space ships. So you build a couple of exploratory ships and send them to nearby stars. Some of the planets at these stars will be more habitable than others.
Once you find a planet that's like your home planet, you build a Colony Ship and go colonize it. Once there, you make its temperature better by terraforming it, mining the metal from it, and using it as a base for further exploration and colonization. After a number of years the new planet's population will grow so large that it make a profit, just like your home planet.
You'll hop from planet to planet expanding your galactic empire. Somewhere along the line, you'll run into opposition bad guys (other Outland players) who are out to conquer the galaxy, too. In addition to exploring and colonizing, you'll need to defend yourself against the more aggressive of these alien races. You can do this by building defensive satellites at your colonies. You can also defend yourself by building fleets of fighters and preemptively attacking the aliens. If fighting isn't to your taste, you can befriend some of these aliens, creating allies instead of enemies.
In addition to building ships and terraforming and mining planets, you spend money on technology research. The first ships you build are capable of travelling to other stars, but they can't go far, they're slow, they can't attack or defend themselves well, and they require a lot of metal to build. When you spend money on research, your ship technology levels will improve. To no one's surprise, better ships will destroy obsolete ones in battle.

Spectre VR 1.0.5 | 1 to 8 players. |
AppleTalk. |
Any Color Mac. |
Spectre is a first-person perspective, vector graphic tank game. Battle against opponents on a virtual battlefield with a variety of weapons. The vector graphics reduces the processor requirements (which opens this game up to more then PowerMacs, which we all don't have yet!). Spectre VR includes an editor so that you can create your own terrains.
FAQ: Hey, what's the deal between Spectre Supreme and Spectre VR?
Velocity Development released several versions of Spectre. Instead of naming them Spectre 1, Spectre 2, and so on, they just renamed them. Spectre is the first, Supreme is the second, there was even a Spectre Challenger which was more or less a 'Lite' version (it had no networking) that shipped with Performa's for a while. Spectre VR is simply the latest version, and the only one that can still be purchased. VR even includes an editor to create your own levels! Network games cannot be played between different versions of Spectre.

Strategic Conquest 4.0 | 1 to 2 players. |
AppleTalk. |
Any Mac, Color & B/W. |
Strategic Conquest is truly a classic Macintosh game; around since the very first Macintoshes, and probably the first ever game to be networked. This game began to suffer the slow death all programs face when they are not maintained as new machines and operating systems are introduced. Delta Tao to the rescue! They purchased the rights, revamped the graphics, updated the code for full compatibility, and re-released it as version 4.0.
As the title implies, your goal is to conquer the world. Of course, there's the small problem of your opponent trying to do the same thing. In many respects, this game resembles a computerized version of the board game 'RISK'. Of course, Strategic Conquest adds many more elements (such as nukes, for that last stand effort) to make things interesting.
