If you’re new to the Macintosh scene you’ll come across a phenomena you may not know from other computers - people give their Macs (funny) names.
This tradition dates back to the early Mac days when computers were still huge, boring and unpersonal boxes with an IBM sticker on it running DOS. Mac users had this wonderful graphics user interface, the rebel spirit and a lot of creativity. And they had the first truly personal computer.
So if you haven't renamed yours yet, help keeping this tradition alive! If you're temporarily out of creative energy, here's some suggestion with which to rename "Macintosh HD":
| Name(s) | Description |
| BigMac - MiniMac | Perfect for a bigger and a smaller partition! |
| Bad Apple | Reserved for owners of 5200/5300/6300 Performas |
| Cobalt - Beryllium - Iridium | Take the formatted drive's size, and find that atomic number on the periodic table. These 3 are a 27Gb, 77Gb, and a 5GB iPod. |
| CookieJar | Don’t forget to pixel a fitting Icon! |
| Calvin Hobbes | Best when used in conjunction with the respective icons from our Cartoon Iconpack |
| HAL9000 / Alpha60 | Two computer names from the movies Alphaville and 2001 |
| Vivace - Sforzando - Crescendo | A musician’s choice for three partitions |
| Norm - Cliff - Sam - Diane - Paula | That’s what Yours Truly uses after watching all the reruns of the comedy series Cheers.
|
| C: D: and E: | No idea why someone would ever put up with something like this, but for the sake of completion |
| Arthur - Guinevere - Lancelot | Clearly for fans of the King Arthur Saga and three partitions |
