While SoundJam MP is more sophisticated, it won’t run on 68k Macs and is sluggish on 1st & 2nd generation PowerPC.
That's where MpegDec comes to the rescue. Thanks to its small footprint, we've successfully run it on a Mac IIci with a 40 Mhz 68030 CPU upgrade as well as a 2nd generation (601) PowerPC Mac. MpegDec supports ID3 tags, web streaming (via Open Transport), a graphic equalizer and MPEG to AIFF and WAVE file conversion.
It also supports playlists, although make sure to read the guide by our respected S7T member MTT on how to properly set them up.
