I am using Disinfectant in 7, and it is great!

There is a Freeware antivirus app Gatekeeper 1.3 from 1993, that "continuously monitor a mac watching for operations commonly carried out by viruses". I will try this  with Disinfectant, as it does not need updates to find viruses.

Have any of you used/heard/read of the Gatekeeper?

Is it still capable of finding the operations viruses do?

I have a related question.  being a mac user for nearly 20 years.  and having owned several anti virus programs I have never found one virus on my mac.

question 1.  is it a concern if so

question 2.  what are the latest version compatible with 7.6.1

I have norton anti virus 5 which is 7.5 or greater   68040 or minimum.

can we still get definition updates

norton system works 1.0 requires 8.1 minimum

I did not use macs 1993, so have no recollection of Gatekeeper nor have I managed to find any articles of it.  To learn  the ins & outs without hard work could be nice for a chance.

The 1.3 is the only one I have found.

Thank you for telling that virus 5 works in 7.6, as the last time I tried to find which one do, I did not succeed. From top of my head I would say virus definition updates are not available for it. I have one that is slightly later, but no definitions. (I hope I remember wrong).

I am sure there are no new viruses for 7, but the old ones are still there.

I got 5 minutes ago a nVIR B virus when downloading an old app, but  NAV found it during download, so no infection.

The monsters are still lurking from under your bed.

My Quadra 700 just had an nVIR virus infection. I never would have known since I had no antivirus applications installed. Monopoly and Claris Resolve told me their code had been tampered with when I ran them, so I found an old copy of Virex 5.5.3 which repaired everything. Almost everything on it was infected! I now have Virex on all my old macintoshes.
