I just installed 7.6.1 (from a 5500, 6500 CD-ROM) on a very stock 8600 (32M RAM, 2G HD, 200MHz system). Installation went smoothly, rebooted and got a system error type 10. Type 10 errors are illegal instructions... that didn't offer lots of insight, beyond making me wonder if the CD-ROM won't install on the 8600 properly. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Try booting from the CD again and repairing the disk with Disk First Aid.

That did the trick after two attempts at disk repair.
