List,

I am interested in re-purposing some of my old hardware as educational machines for both my kids and our church. I know this site is more geared towards gaming / internet but does anyone have pointers to freeware / shareware / abandonware Mac classis apps geared towards school age kids? I'd like to put together a package of apps a lot like Dan has done for the software categories.

Thanks,
Rick

Underdogs is a gret site... but illegal. :D  But rlawson obviously saw the link before I deleted it so it's all good.

From said "illegal" website:

"Abandonware is commercial software that has been discontinued by the publisher and are not sold or supported anymore. If you are the publisher of a certain game on this site, and wish that it is removed, please email me and I will remove the game."

Right on their front page, yeah, appears they are really dirty people who are unwilling to respect the wishes of software publishers, better keep em away from this site :rass:

Exactly.  We'll try to keep ours as legal as possible.

I'm sorry you feel that we should link to warez sites and risk losing our Google AdSense qualification or worse getting shut down.

How odd that you would draw that conclusion as well. I did not say this site should post to warez.

What I criticized was your decision to classify it as illegal.

The site clearly states that it only posts abondonware and that it will remove anything at request of the publisher. Not exactly your typical warez site since those do whatever is necessary to continue to make pirated software available.

Course, I could be wrong and they could be lying … but then they'd probably post software more people cared about than just we old System 7 users.

Abandonware isn't legal. Just because a company doesn't distribute it or support it doesn't mean they don't still own copyrights and claims. It's a term that was created to justify violating copyright laws and protections.
