I've had this old box lying around and stumbled on this site. I'd like to run os7 on it, if poss. it has 320mb ram now and the old drive I took out was running osx10.2
I put an old 10 gb hd in it and put in os761 cd but get an error that this cd is not for this computer. It is a generic cd and still boots other older macs.

I'm stuck...what do I need to do to sort this? or what info do I need to post for help?

Welcome to System 7 Today!  I wish we could help you with this, but in fact every Mac that shipped from Apple with a G3 processor is not compatible with Mac OS 7!  I'm so sorry...

But you can get a Power Mac 8500 or 8600, and several other systems that are compatible with Mac OS 7, and upgrade them to G3s and G4s, and still maintain Mac OS 7 compatibility...

Well then, no sweat. I have an LC3 as well. I'll play with that for now.

Macs are not like PC's. You cannot run older versions of the operating system on them than what they came with from Apple. You can upgrade, but you can't downgrade. There are emulators that let you run older versions of System/MacOS on some machines, but I don't think the beige G3 is one of them. You'll have to google for yourself to find out more.
