Does anyone know the upper limit to the ide drive size one can install in the C600? Mine came with a 2.1gb, but I want to go larger? Any ideas? Thanks everyone. R |

I installed an 8GB Maxtor IDE hard drive in my C600 a few years ago - worked fine. FYI you CAN upgrade the OS in your C600 - I ran OS8.6.1 for awhile - a big improvement to System 7.6.

Older ATA controllers usually can handle 40 - 60gb drives fine. But I wouldn't go higher than that, especially for System 7. 20gb would be an excellent size for whatever your System 7 (or any Classic Mac OS) needs may be. Quote from: "Forrest" FYI you CAN upgrade the OS in your C600 - I ran OS8.6.1 for awhile There is no such thing as 8.6.1. Quote from: "Forrest" a big improvement to System 7.6. I'm sure most people here at System 7 Today realize they can upgrade to Mac OS 8 or 9.

>>There is no such thing as 8.6.1. You're right - it's been a few years since I've used it. I meant to say OS 8.6. I wasn't sure if the original poster knew OS8 or 9 worked on his PowerMac clone. Unless there's a really old program that won't work in OS8/9 - I can't imagine sticking with System 7 on a PowerMac clone.
