Hello,
I've been trying to revive an old Quadra 840AV I inherited, and unfortunately ended up wiping off most of the interesting software on it most importantly Photoshop 4.0 and Premier 4.2 on, which seem to be the latest versions that work on BOTH System 7 AND the 68040.  (I really appreciate the link to Photoshop 5 demo on this great site, but it's PowerPC only...).  I actually have what I believe to be both the manuals and registration cards for the software, but the original discs themselves have long since vanished.  Does anyone have copies of this they might be able to help me get a hold of?  The full boxed versions on EBay are pretty expensive.  I'm wondering if I could even find copies of the trial versions, I could use the serial #s I already have, so I’d even be willing to try that route.  Of course they, (as well as the 4.0.1 updater for Photoshop 4.0) have long since been removed form the Adobe web site.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

I don't think there are demos of those programs - that was when the internet was very new.

Hi Dpaanlka,
Actually I think there was a Photoshop 4.0 demo out there, at least for a while...  See this 1998 review: http://www.webdeveloper.com/design/design_reviews_Photoshop4.html, which mentions a free trial of Photoshop 4 for the Mac, which was available online from Adobe.  Also, see this page from WayBack: http://web.archive.org/web/19980204012519/www.adobe.com/supportservice/custsupport/LIBRARY/psmac.htm... it mentions a 17meg tryout of 4.0.1 (which tells me all the plug-ins weren't included on the demo version anyway, so I may still be back to finding a full copy disc.)

FYI, it also appears there was also a tryout for Premiere 4.2: http://web.archive.org/web/19980204012538/www.adobe.com/supportservice/custsupport/LIBRARY/prmac.htm .

PhotoShop 2.5 had a plug in that used the DSP Chip(s) in the AV machines for accelleration. That plug in broke with PS3. So PhotoShop 2.5 would also be an interesting find for the Quadra 840AV.

Interesting...!  I didn't know there was a built in DSP to the 840AV...  nor that it stopped being supported at Photoshop 2.5!  I was actually looking for a replacement Photoshop 4.x becuase I have a Radius Thunder GX in the box, and I thought that the RADIUS DSP plug worked up to 4.x...  Perhaps I am wrong?  Does anyone know if the DSP plug in the Thunder IV GX card stopped being supported at Photoshop 2.5 like the 840av itself?  The Radius manual only states it requires Photoshop 2.5.1 or greater...
