Got my Powerbook 1400c in the mail today! I paid $60 shipped. I has a 183mhz 603ev (Nupowr upgrade), 32mb ram, 1gb hard drive, cdrom, floppy, zip, and even a nupowr ethernet card inside. Here are some pictures: Picture 1 Picture 2 |

Well I don't really know why the links did not work, but you can copy and paste them to see.

You didn't put a closing bracket ] on the [URL part.

WOW. So it turns out the powerbook has a 233mhz G3 nupowr upgrade. It came with a "NUpowr 1400-183" and a "NUpwer G3" disks. So I took the machine apart and the processor said PowerPC 750. So I figured it was the powerpc upgrade and not the g3. Well it turns out the 1400-183 drivers wouldn't recognize the G3 processor, so I tried the G3 drivers and voila! So $60 shipped for my G3 1400c ended up being quite the deal!

Sounds like a great deal! Congrats. I love my 3 1400's. A G3 is a powerPC. They all use 7.6.1 and the g3 upgrade screams under it. Good luck and have fun.

I have a 1400 with a NuPower G3 233. It is fast. I just wish that it were in my 1400c but instead it is in my 1400cs. The 1400c is so much nicer.

You could, you know, move the G3 from the 1400cs to the 1400c.

I have wanted to do that, but that is beyond my skill level. Not sure how I can get someone to do it for me. Doesn't the NuPower G3 need a driver also?

I it very easy to move them back and forth. You just need a small phillips screwdriver. The drivers for the Nupowr G3 are on this site, or I could even email them to you, as I have the original disk.

Sounds pretty good to me -- especially the G3 upgrade, which aren't cheap. For those worried about swapping processors or memory, it's very, very easy -- the instructions that come with the Apple manuals are very good and very complete -- you can get them online as PDFs (that's how I did it). Everything plugs in and is meant to be swapped out. Adding memory to my 1400cs was one of the smoothest things I've ever done with any piece of hardware. As I posted in another thread, I just took the 1400 wireless, and I'm pretty happy about it. I need to pop the top again and look at my SCSI connector. SCSI has never worked in this PB, and I'm praying for something like a cold solder joint, but I can see swapping out logic boards if it comes to that. (Follow my Powerbook rehab journey at http://thisoldmac.blogspot.com, where I continue to praise Dan for all the help that this site has given me).

Really, I have opened up a few 100 Series PowerBooks. So let me get this straight. Do I swap hardware then load the driver? Will anything work without the driver?

The G3 processors require drivers from whoever made it. I believe I only have the Sonnet ones on the site, as I've never used a NewerTech 1400 upgrade (the MaxPowr ones are for desktops I think).

Yes, the computer will run without the driver installed. The processor probably won't be optimzied correctly. The system profiler said I had a 33mhz processor before I installed the driver and 233mhz afterwards.

Is that by any chance an aluminum book cover?
