TL;DR ugh Hotline server also Telnet BBS ugh. --- So I've had a project I've been working on for VesperNet, which was another means of accessing certain parts of the network - essentially a BBS. Low priority project etc. Although Hotline has its graphical counterpart, accessible via Hotline clients... it already facilitates features that can be found in those ole BBS servers, but we don't have that, do we - until now that is. One project fusion and half an eternity later, and we have the initial bastard ready for eternal servitude. It's pretty basic, but a proof of concept worthy of building upon. So, VesperNet BBS scrapped in favor of the new and much superior VesperNet BBS (powered by Hotline). It can be tested, right now, this very instant, by connecting to hotline.vespernet.net:2322 and it offers what you would expect from both Hotline and a BBS - chat, threaded news discussions, messaging users, navigating a file area for both uploading and downloading (ZMODEM) etc. And ... AND ... since my server already has a plugin system, it is entirely possible to build and run doors. Amazing! Wow! Rumors are going around in outer court that the plugin system also has been slightly extended to give more juice to doors! Amazing. |
