So, I collect a lot of vintage computer stuff. This did not start out as a concious decision, it just happened and vintage computer stuff amassed itself to the point I needed racks to put the stuff in. This'll probably ring bells for some among this community.

Being an IT infrastructure guy for my day job, I also have an enterprise grade computer network at home. Because, as I have said before, one simply NEEDS enterprise gear in the home. It makes life easier. Mostly.

Being a collector, I have neatly catalogued and organized my machines, including the spare gear for my home network. Currently, a switch is missing. It is an HP 1810-8G. Not the latest or greatest, but it is a managed switch which can be powered by PoE on the first interface and that is very handy. It was in use until the start of this year, when it was replaced by the 24-port version of the same switch.

Now, the documentation says it should be in Rack 1, shelf C. My observation says it is not. My memory says I did not get rid of it, so it is presumed to still be around. However I, for the life of me, cannot find it. Since it is offline, I can't enable the locator either. And since it is not very big, it can hide practically anywhere.

Does this happen to you guys? Please PLEASE say it does, it would make me feel more normal... (:

Go ahead and ask me what I had for supper yesterday and you'll get a "..." from me ;-) I mean, this I'd consider normal, especially given how much info our brain has to process every normal work day. Add potentially family matters, hobbies etc. to it and you quickly get why sometimes our brain jumps into MacsBug :-)

I'd say don't worry too much. But perhaps it's a good indicator that a little shrinking down of the collection and focussing on a core might be in order?
