Love the understated, humble, MG page.

Those who would use it will see what they need to see and know.

Using LiteLine v.01d4
If you add a tracker address via the options, but the address is incorrect (e.g. a typo introduced during copy and paste), and then open the Tracker window and hit “Refresh”, the client will stall while trying to contact that tracker (“Asking the tracker…”). It seems to take about five minutes (?) before the request times out.

There doesn't seem to be any way to cancel the request, for example by pressing Cmd+. or Esc. It would be nice if the client could poll for input periodically and gracefully cancel the request if such input is detected.

Do you have a disk image that I can use in Mini vMac?. I'd love to emulate a Mac inside my emulator.

The link in post #5 has a link to the Vespernet site. Go to downloads and you can download it either as a hqx or dsk (which is what you want).

Given from what I've seen, I'd expect LiteLine to run natively on your OS 8.1 as well btw.

Unfortunate and quick release of 0.1d5, it addresses file uploads specifically, but also the timeout issue.

The timeout in Liteline wasn't much of an issue, it's set to 10 seconds... the problem was DNS all along, MacTCP apparently also has a timeout handler that is less nice unless handled properly, so it's been set to 20 seconds until I implement controls to cancel the connection attempt by stroking commands ;)

Edit 1:
d5 is rolling until upload functionality is complete, I snuck in cancellation for tracker listing as well.

Edit 2:
d5 has seen the last update for the evening, touches on the touchy subject of race conditions and send states, hopefully the issue has been resolved with the latest change - but we'll see once tests are done.

Edit 3:
So far no more errors on upload, issue seems to be resolved with the last update.

Now that I feel that I've gotten far enough with this project, there are a few hurdles left before I would call the client 'feature complete'

Here's a small roadmap for 0.1d6, if I've missed anything obvious or if bugs / issues are found which need resolving, do let me know.

List of The Things
- Manually, by hand, cancelling a transfer.
- Folder transfers (maybe? does anyone want this?)
- Resume support.
- Compatibility with servers announcing version <150 (pre-1.5).
- Icons (fork, post-1.0).
- Better looking interface for System 7+ and colour enjoyers (fork, post-1.0).
- Improve handling of Tasks (and proper download / upload queue)
- Actual transfer status polling (server initiated)
- Implement the smaller, missing features (move file, create alias, delete news cat/bundle)
- Fetching / writing whole account list (perhaps for post-1.0, not really necessary due to already being able to open/writing singles)
- Optimizations.
- Second stress-test against a large server with simulated activity (200+ users, chatter, news, messageboard and file activity).

Darn, I was going to report an uploads issue resulting in 0 byte sized files when I re-read the latest posts and realized I was still on 0.1d4, where this is apparently a known issue. Upgrading now ...

Sneaking in DR 0.1d6 while I'm at it.

I have once more touched the file functions, but hopefully to the better as they are more in line with the Hotline protocol than previously.

In no particular order,
legacy server support (pre-1.5 servers),

resume for both up- and downloads whereas the latter will will apply the same creator and type as the official Hotline client uses while in transit, which means that if a file download is aborted or cancelled, it could potentially be resumed from an official Hotline client,

transfers can be cancelled,

tasks and queuing improved, which also includes transfer status polling,

moving files is possible (drag and drop within the file browser) as well as creating file aliases, delete support has been added to the news area (catalog, bundle and article),

apart from that, some minor optimizations and internal fixes.

I've been itching to try this, but have been sucked into projects.

I need to make time and just do it!

Nice! Love to see all the improvements come in so quickly. I’m not near my Mac this weekend, so I’ll try it when I get back. (It’s a couple of days so maybe by then I’ll be testing v1.0d9)
