Having grown bored of mere 192GiB I've decided to extend my HFS+ Data volume to 256GiB. I think they also passed a law to that effect (whereas you aren't supposed to have any fun below 200GiB). Let's see how it goes.

Ooops, the floppy driver based implementation of HD access under B-II seems to mess up my short game here. Above 192GB the amount of disk space I lose in extents for any large number of small files (and maybe even the directory entry in the B-Tree itself) becomes so punitive, that I virtually run out of disk space halfway through copying the files from my old volume to the new one. And if I shut down the system once I've reached "0 bytes" under these conditions, I'll likely end up with a totally corrupted HFS+ volume. So, at least for super floppy based emulator implementations anything above 192GB seems to be very unhealthy indeed.

Wait, so drives in Basilisk II are basically implemented as floppy disks then? I mean, whatever works, right? But that’s really something if that’s indeed the case!

Well it is the case because they just took existing code for the emulation of floppy disks - and never updated that part. No IDE, no SCSI emulation and all the limitations that go along with it. Its not VMware, you know.
