I originally got a Performa 640CD/DOS compatible from my parents in Y2K, when it quit working for them. I worked and worked on that bugger til I determined it needed a new hard drive. I got a bigger drive and proceeded to figure out how to get Win95 to run on it. I tried Win98, but no go. Then my sister gave me her Mac and it's just been downhill since then. Now I have 11 Macs and only my iMac will actually run OSX, but it's slower than snot, so today I put Kubuntu Linux on it. I'm using it now & am happy so far. Most of the others have System 7.5.5 or OS8.1, cuz those are the disks I have. I'm also running Basilisk with system 7.5.1 on a PC, cuz for a while I was using Expresso on my folk's old Mac as a scheduler, and it won't run right on anything later than that. Oh, yeah, and I have a Umax Supermac with OS 7.6.1 and BeOS 5.0.3, and a Power Computing Power Tower Pro 250 with OS 8.1 & BeOS. BeOS is snappy, like system7, but more powerful on the things that it can actually do. Some people call the cars I buy "beaters". I call them "fixer-uppers". I do the same with computers. |
