with the introduction of macOS Tahoe borrowing inspiration from both Aqua and Aero i took out of my bookshelf my 2009 Dell Inspiron 1545 Vista laptop  due to its age and the fact that Linux couldn't make a real difference in speed i put vista back on it and have been using it with software from 2009 or earlier typing this from Chrome 4.0 runs very fast using old software thats period correct

I picked up a big multimedia Toshiba back in the day. It was an open box and I do not think it had ever been put to use. The seller was very very eager and motivated to sell it. (I am pretty sure it was stolen.) It did have Vista Ultimate installed on it, and in honesty I loved the over the top garishness of the UI. Under the hood MS was really copying a lot from the Mac and from Be as well. Although Vista was pretty much much loathed, I sort of liked it and when I think of running Windows it is Vista I think of.

I still get a hoot out of the skeumorphism of Macs at the time. I do enjoy reading all the justifications of design changes. It reminds me of my kids old goofy justifications for why they just had to have xyz sneakers, or bike or some such foolishness. It is actually fascinating to see the haphazard logic slowly morph into critical thinking over time.

Personally I think it adds a bit of fun and humor to otherwise dull repetitive tasks. More Aero, less flat will be a nice change.
