The other day I was wondering what happened to Eric's Solitaire. It was included with the Mac for many years, yet was not installed on any of my OS 9 installs. I went to the Macintosh Garden and found it. The Garden also noted that Delta Tao was still up and selling it so I went to Delta Tao to see. I did that on a new Mac and indeed Delta Tao is still up. So I spent a few minutes looking through the site. Shortly after I finished and moved on I started getting notification pop ups that I had viruses and clicking the notification resulted in some idiot virus scan opening and yes indeed I had thirteen viruses and it appeared my only hope for salvation was a subscription to Norton Anti-Virius. I spent close to a half hour clearing out that mess to stop the automatic notification Pop Ups. (I had thought Safari had guard rails to prevent that from happening.) My advice would be to not go poking around in Delta Tau. |

Ouch. I won't be going to investigate "Whatever happened to Delta Tao" now, for sure. Thanks for the notice, wove.

Double Ouch. Are you sure those viruses come from a drive-by-infection on the Delta Tao site? I'll pay a visit, albeit from OS 9, later. (just to be safe) Their website has still been online, but there hasn't been any activity for many years. Last time I was on it about 2-3 years ago I think. I've read about people who tried to order things on it but only to get either 404s or sending money and never receiving anything. It's pretty much how Ambrosia ended, a sad end for two exceptional companies. Delta Tao's commitment to the Mac and it's indie gaming scene throughout the 80's and 90's was big. They released Eric's Solitaire, which indeed was a great piece of entertainment and many other titles. To me, they'll but always connected with the Spaceward Ho! games and that particular 1980's easy-going humour ...

Quote from: “Bolkonskij” Are you sure those viruses come from a drive-by-infection on the Delta Tao site? I cannot say for sure if it was the result of causality or coincidence and I am not a competent enough investigator to ferret out the exact source. The notification popups started popping up a few minutes after I ended my session of wandering through the Delta Tau site.

For those interested (at your own risk!), the link to Delta Tao's website is: http://deltatao.com/ Its last update has been from 2012 ("Spaceward Ho! 5 is now available for iPad."). I wonder why it is even kept online if the company is basically defunct for a decade? Or isn't it ? There is a contact section on the site with an order hotline. Any of our American S7T users who would call and ask what the status of Delta Tao is and whether orders are still processed? That'd be an interesting information. I bet you get to talk to the great Joe Williams himself, so see that as an amazing opportunity. (squeeze some anecdotes out of him for us, please ;-)

Nobody who'd be interested in learning what goes on with Delta Tao in 2025 and giving Joe Williams a call?

I have never paid much attention to people and companies. I had never heard of Delta Tao until I came across it on Macintosh Garden. I had always assumed that Eric's Solitaire was written by someone named Eric. Much the same way I had never heard of Bill Atkinson until until someone put up that nostalgia site about early Mac developement and made a bunch of press rounds.

Quote from: Bolkonskij: "For those interested (at your own risk!), the link to Delta Tao's website is: http://deltatao.com/" Well, a good old http link, I bit the bullet and gave it a go. Nothing out of the ordinary there that I could detect. I was able to download a Spaceward Ho! .dmg, its link said DL for free, but maybe that just means "free to download" not actually unlocked and free. On the same page was a (dead) link for the Palm OS version. I was able to DL that via the Wayback Machine. All purchase links point to PayPal, but the site does have a distinct "Ambrosia"-ish feel to it. Edit: Had to try a PayPal link to see what would happen ![]() Then reading a page description for Spaceward Ho! on the MG, I read: Quote from: Mac Garden: "Until sometime after 2016, version 5 (Carbonised) could be purchased on the Delta Tao website. However the registration service has been down for years, preventing unlocks. And the payment page has been down as well."So then... very "Ambrosia"-ish in that sense. The appStore link for Spaceward Ho! for iPad, located on the Delta Tao News page, does however work. So I assume that could be purchased (US$4.99)

>I bit the bullet and gave it a go. Me too, and no problems observed. Downloaded the Spaceward Ho! demo (in a more helpful .sit format than the stupid .dmg). Looks interesting but no time to learn it right now....
