If I still had a NAS this would be no problem. I'm looking for a way to run a somewhat modern system (Macbook Pro with 10.13 on it) with server software that has Appleshare.

Have we ever figured out how to do this? Or am I going to have to find a workaround?

I also have an older Windows XP machine that I could use to put some kind of Appleshare server software on it.

I used MacPorts <https://www.macports.org> to install NetaTalk on my MBP running OS X 15.1. With NetaTalk installed all of my other Macs show up. in sharing using afp://. I have not yet had a chance to see about how the Classic OS shows up. From what I have read sharing works back to OS 9 and I am not sure why OS 9 would be a cut off.

I did find that installing NetaTalk messes up my install of the Mendleson install of Sheepshaver, breaking all the scripts he has written to provide connection between the emulated OS. 9 and the host OS X machine.

Yikes! Really? :o Mendleson's scripts are awesome! :) it's the only way I got SheepShaver to run on Chrome OS under Linux with Wine
