On old Macs from the System 7 era, many of them had SCSI hard drives. How do you find the SCSI version? When I check around on the usual sites, I found out they all omit that information, similarly like when I was looking for detailed RAM info a while back. Is there a way to tell what SCSI version it is? Or does anyone know this closely-guarded secret?

Apple published a KB article (TA29470) which is archived https://web.archive.org/web/20230126014951/https://support.apple.com/kb/TA29470?locale=en_US that lists all the SCSI chipsets and speeds and any notes. When you are asking about "SCSI version" are you meaning "SCSI protocol version" (eg 1, 2)? Those don't matter very much on the Mac as early Macs used NCR 53C80 - a SCSI-1 chip but SCSI-2 drives work fine (many drives talked SCSI-2 by then (as well as SCSI-1)).

Awesome, thank you for that. I'm just trying to learn more about it, as well as more detailed info out of curiosity.

@ShinobiKenobi: Hi, yes not sure what you mean by SCSI version. SCSI has standards and doesn't have versions strictly speaking. e.g. SCSI-1, SCSI-2, SCSI-3, etc. On classic Mac's, those that came with built-in SCSI support, these will be either SCSI-1 or SCSI-2. Anything beyond those standards will be 3rd party solutions in the form of add-on cards. The most common are those made by Adaptec. Some excellent photo's here of typical SCSI-1 & 2 connectors here: https://iec.net/home/technical-information/small-computer-system-interface-scsi/ Most will be very familiar to anyone with or has known/used a classic Mac. This Wikipedia page gives a very good breakdown of the various SCSI standards: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_SCSI According to that Wikipedia page, the SCSI-2 standard was formalized in 1994, if so, then any Mac with built-in SCSI support made before 1994 will likely be using SCSI-1, and from 1994 on, SCSI-2. The Mac Plus, the 1st Mac with onboard SCSI, had an earlier form of SCSI than what followed in Macs after the Plus. "The SCSI implementation of the Plus was engineered shortly before the initial SCSI spec was finalized and, as such, is not 100% SCSI-compliant." -excerpt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_Plus
