it just decided to spout out an error to me when trying to send a new post to usenet

"An error occurred when NewsWatcher tried to send a command to your news server.

NewsWatcher sent the following command:
POST

The server sent the following response:
441 Invalid syntax encountered in Message-ID header field body (unexpected byte or empty content line)

Server errors sometimes mean that you did something wrong. For example, if you type a password incorrectly, you get a server error message.

Server errors also sometimes mean that there is something wrong with your server.

Server errors do not usually mean that there is anything wrong with NewsWatcher. The author of NewsWatcher cannot fix your server for you. Only your local administrator can do this. Please report server errors which you do not understand to your administrator, not to the author of NewsWatcher."

and there you go the error log of it. Btw, i am using MT-Newswatcher

Try another news server. Your client might be too "vintage" for this one.

On System 7? MT-Newswatcher 2.4.4

It's an odd error. Are you perhaps on a very old version of MT-Newswatcher?

I have been able to post from it with no problem.

Then quite possibly your connection had a shake-up while you were sending the message? How about trying it again and see if the error repeats?

@Pasha26: MT-NewsWatcher v2.4.4 does not have a problem with accessing usenet news and posting to groups via Eternal September.

The issue will be something to do with the error message you received regarding the Message ID. It will be something in your configuration in the MT-NW Preferences that you may (or may not) have set up, to which the E-S server is not accepting.

Have you been able to download the full groups list from E-S, or just the 11 or so E-S only, groups?

You should be able to access the E-S hierarchy via MT-NW, and read any of the support groups there. Such as eternal.september.support, eternal.september.newusers, eternal.september.config, etc. These may have information pertaining to your error, also, being a subscriber to E-S you might be able to post your issue into one of those groups for advice and help with this problem.

If you are new to usenet, it can be helpful to test out your ability to post articles first by using a test group, before posting into a group you are interested in. Usually the test groups are located in the larger group heirarchies, such as country and technical heirarchies, for example: alt.belgique.test, alt.canada.test, alt.comp.test, eternal.september.test, etc, etc.

Anyway, I hope you will be able to resolve the issue.

You don't send it over. If I understood MTT correct, you should check your preferences in MT-NW (check the top menu). Do you use any fancy special characters as name or e-mail? If so, try to replace them with something more standard in the English language.

Yes, it probably just needs a little adjustment in the Preferences settings by you.

As you are able to download the full group list, then your password and username in the Preferences > Authentication setup must be correct.

The Preferences > Personal settings setup may be where the problem is, as this part requires an email address, and that, plus your username is what gets used in the Message-ID header, which is what your error message was alluding to.

Check this screenshot for a reference. It may offer some insight to where the problem lies.
