Hi to all users here. This is Marco from Arezzo, Italy. I’m a Mac collector and retro enthusiast but also a professional software developer. I’m interested not only in hardware but also in programming the Macintosh platform. Found this site with lots of useful informations. Cheers! |

Hi Marco and welcome! Like you, pretty much all of us are also retro collectors and enthusiasts, including our beloved Classic Macs, but just a select few dabble in the programming and development side of things, some a whole lot more than others! ![]() I also had a chance to visit your astoundingly beautiful country, having the privilege of visiting Roma, Venezia and Firenze! I traveled past your city of Arezzo when I took the train from Rome to Florence ![]() "Siamo molto felici di averti con noi nel nostro forum e speriamo che tu lo trovi accogliente, nuovo amico!" I know, my Italian is likely horrendous spelling and grammarwise! My French, Spanish and German are better, also in varying degrees (aside English of course, lol!!!)

Your Italian is perfectly clear to me, thank you. I hope you could take a stop to Arezzo next time. In love coding and I like to take a look to old source code to see how do some things were done in the past. I think there's always something new to learn today and I think also the Macintosh offered a good platform to developers with its API comparing to others in these years.

Oh, bella Italia! Spend a wonderful time in Tuscany. I just wish it wouldn't be so expensive to live there. ![]() The food, the sights, the women ![]() May I say I envy you Marco?

Hi Marco ![]() Welcome! It's nice to meet you. What old Macs do you have? I also have a degree in IT programming, but couldn't stand the office and corporate environment, so I no longer work in IT (dressing up and wearing ties was absolute torture), but I still love to program. I'm learning the beginner stuff of Macintosh programming so I can make cool stuff for our Macs, too (in the past, I programmed for minicomputers/mainframes, and PCs; Windows and GNU/Linux), so I'm still learning the classic Mac OS API.

Well, currently I'm owning these (classic) models: - Macintosh Classic with 4MB RAM, SCSI2SD disk, System 6.0.7 Ita + System 7.0.1 Ita - Performa 5260/120 with replaced logic board (from a 630, so it's a 68040), 40 MB RAM, System 7.6.1 Ita - PowerMac 6400 with damaged case but still working, 90 MB RAM, System 7.6.1 Ita - PowerMac G3 Beige with dual boot MacOS 8.1 + 9.2.2 - PowerBook G3 with MacOS 8.1 I've got them by auctions during these years (the 6400 is broken due to shipment issue :-( ). As a really Macintosh user I started with an eMac with Mac OS X Panther (but I hadn't it anymore).

Very nice! your G3 PowerBook is the 3500 model, right? I believe that model was the only G3 PowerBook that ran Mac OS 8.1, and a personal favorite of Dan, the original admin to the S7T website as well years back! ![]() I loved my PowerMac 6400 and miss it, another very amazing PowerMac, and your reborn 630 in the 5260 case must be quite a nice 68k Mac! You definitely have an awesome set of Macs, Marco!

Welcome! You mentioned you have a mac Classic. Did you know they had enough space in the ROM to include a bootable "rom disk"? If you hold down "command-option-x-o" at startup it should start from it. (One of the Classic's codenames was XO). I love the 6400's case and wish I had one! I've got a 6360, which uses almost the same motherboard I believe (and is so much a better design than all the others in the 6300 range). I swap out its board with a 630 one, so I can switch between PPC and M68k as needed, on the same machine (same harddrive and System Folder). I know French and Spanish (and some Latin and Portuguese), so I can read simple Italian, although it's a bit of a struggle! (Definitely my worse Romance language...no...that'd be Romanian!) I've got some Italian comics, kids books, and sci fi paperbacks I picked up at a used bookstore. I was able to make it all the way through an Italian translation of a kid's "Goosebumps" book...so I love seeing Italian here! My languages have gotten so confused in my head, I can barely speak any of them (they get all mixed up!), but reading is still good.

Nice selection Marco. I like the compacts I must confess. I had a working 6400 275, it was a nice machine that I never had chance to fully experience unfortunately. Due to covid and the need to work from home my small hobby room and handful of Mac’s had to be sold. Took ages to sell (3-4 months) and sold it cheap. If I had space i would have kept it. Anyway just a few classic Mac’s left se/30 and g3. I did look at a IIci on ebay the other day and was tempted but lack of space is my biggest issue. Choice go into the office daily and have my hobby room back, work from home and only have a handful. As I also don’t like ties so home working and small collection won lol Nice swap out to 630, the 6200 range is a pretty form factor.
