I had recently just brought 4 Macs from my storage unit to my apartment to clean them up and give them new life. My Power Macintosh 7200/90 was the next one I worked on after my Performa 5200CD. It booted up with no problem. Then I went through my old RAM modules to see what the capacities of them were, one by one, and this proved hard on it. I had to unplug the power and discharge the PSU and try the next one to see if it worked, and finally, hours later, I had worked out which RAM modules were good and which ones were bad, and their capacities. Then I had a lot of trouble redoing the partition table... it had a 500 MB hard drive with a partition for Mac OS 9 and one for System 7. I wanted to only make one partition and install 7 on that. Well, I couldn't, cuz it always complained about virtual memory, so after getting fed up with it, I resorted to a Power Macintosh G3 Mac OS 8.1 CD and configured the hd with that. Went back to the official System 7.5.2 CD for that Mac model, and it couldn't do it cuz of something stupid, so then I put in a CD I recorded of S7, it started to install, then said something was corrupted. So then my last S7 CD that I had copied before, I put that in, and that had problems, too! But I realized it was because some files were corrupted. Well, I narrowed down the files until it finally installed, just without some extra stuff. So then I was tired, and had stayed up until after 7 am working on it. So I went to bed, happy that at least it installed. Well, when I woke up yesterday and went to turn it on, there was no power. It didn't turn on; nothing happened. TLDR, I had to accept that it was gone. But I still have two Power Macintosh 7200/75s. So I got one of those set up. Only... then I realize the built-in ethernet didn't work. *SIGH* Luckily, I had an Asante Friendly Net AAUI adapter that got it up on running

Oh no!! I hate it when my Macs stop working; my older Macs are mostly PowerBooks with smaller, more delicate electronics and everything tightly woven together

Does it do absolutely nothing when you hit the power button or does it at least chime (and display a black screen for instance)?

Absolutely nothing. I put a PSU from one of the 7200/75 Macs in it, which was a working one, and that didn't fix it. And several dark yellow beige brittle plastic pieces broke in the process, on the 90. I took all the other parts and cables out of it to keep as spares. I'm going to take it to recycling, unless someone wants it for some reason. I just am too exhausted on it. I have a working (for now at least!!!) 7200/75 with Sys 7 running great, so I'm OK with that. I'm just too drained to put anymore time, energy, and emotions back into the 90 at this point.

Then let it rest in pieces - and remember the good times you had.

Indeed. And yes, brittle plastic can be a problem with some models, though it's fixable with a product known as ABS plastic cement (U.S.) Take out the working components and focus on the 7200/75, which is a nice System 7 machine anyway. It's good practice to focus on just one or two System 7 machines so they get your full attention and you can leverage their potential.

Thanks for your condolences. When I went to shut it down before going to bed, it kind of glitched. The Special menu stayed open, and the mouse could still move, but nothing else worked. Pushing the power button didn't turn it off, so I had to turn off the switch on my surge protector to turn it off. But I had no choice at that point. I've moved on, though. But I've always had a dream of one day setting up all my old Macs in one room like a computer lab and networking them all together, like they had in high school and college.
