Can you please compile the GamePlugs package for 68k?

To be honest, I'm way too stomped these days with trying to make through the day to compile that stuff myself.

It should be a part of the main 2.0.62 package. Is it not there?

It says in the comments that you have to compile it first for 68k or PPC.

Alrighty then! I think I have the basic jist of this HotStuff client. I'm going to install this on my Leopard 10.5.8 Mac Mini as it has a way bigger monitor and way higher resolution! However, this so cool that it works on the Q605 too (which is my house office and not in the garage with all my other goodies). Thx Knezz and all those that work so hard on Mac 68K programs.

@68040: Likely a typo. Probably should read: the GamePlugs needed to be 1st compiled as FAT and... etc etc.;

They are compiled and ready for use in the DL.

@Knezzen: I think the MG is an adequate place to hold the downloads. Make a sticky post pointing to it. And send takedown notices to the scraper site (you know who ;))

@wove: Snap! ;) That was my Mac too. I saw my first web pages on that SE (MacWeb) and my first Usenet posts with the first gen NewsWatcher :)

Yeah, if you download the SDK and want to program your own HotStuff game to be compatible with the released HotStuff version.

This is what’s on the garden page. It might not be clear enough?

HotStuff supports basic turn based online games over a private chat. A few games are included in the main achive and if you want to modify any of them, or make your own from scratch, download the "GamePlugs SDK and Sources" package to get started.

And in the ”Comptibility” part:
Quote
GamePlugs need to be compiled as FAT and Carbon binaries using RealBasic 3.5.2 to keep compatibility with the main client.

MTT: Thanks for your input! It might be a good place after all.

Ah I was too dim to spot the connection :P

Perhaps to connect the two statements, the compatibility section could have:

If compiling from the source SDK, GamePlugs need to be compiled as FAT... etc, etc.

Or similar wording to help clarify.

It's been AGES since the last release, but HotStuff FINALLY just reached version 2.0.63! Get it at  the usual place while it's Hot (Stuff)! ;)

Congrats for releasing it! :)

I've been beta-testing on my low-end IIci and I can say that @knezzen has put a lot of time and energy in rewriting to get better performance on (faster) 68k machines. The improvements from 2.0.62 to 2.0.63 are very visible in that regard!

I think this is the best full-featured Hotline client you can get on any beige PowerPC System 7 machine these days. I can confirm it to work on my IIci (68030 with a 40 Mhz DayStar Powercache) but here the demands make it noticeably slower than e.g. the new LiteLine, so unless you need all the features, LiteLine beats it on 68k. Not sure how things compare on a fast 68040 Mac though and for any 601 / 603 / 604 PowerPC Mac, HotStuff is the way to go in my opinion.

Yeah, LiteLine is indeed faster and HotStuff will never come close to it (C with System 6 as the target compared to RealBasic and 7.1 as the target), but we can't have too many good Hotline clients available :)

I'm working on adding some new features for the next release, like being able to change the font and background color of the chat history field, timestamps in chat and voice chat ;)

I installed v2.0.63—still using the 68040-25. It runs faster, I think. I also like the simpler buttons—no gray gradients. Great! Voice chat? Damn, I don't have a microphone for the 475... I'd have to try it on the LC III instead. But given my English, I'd better not.

Certainly can't have too many, and we have two amazing ones, for different audiences, from two amazing people.

A few people reached out to me after the release of 2.0.63 and informed me that the FAT archive had issues when ran on a PowerPC system. I have not been able to reproduce these issues myself, so I'm very interested to hear any issues people are having.

If you want to test HotStuff out, please reply to this thread with what type of machine you have tested it on regardless if you had issues or not.

The RealBasic documentation is a bit vague on what works and what doesn't. I've tested HotStuff FAT on 7.5.5 68k, Mac OS 8.6, 9.2.2 and the Carbon build on Mac OS X Tiger and 9.2.2 without any issues.
