After the S7T Summer Challenge we're going to embark on a new challenge. This time a Hypercard challenge! The challenge: Quote Use Hypercard (either v1 or v2) to build something that fits the topic of the challenge which is "home" When? Friday, 22nd of September until the 20th of November. Who can participate? Everybody. Install Hypercard and be creative. Is there a prize? It's not a classic competition. We do it for the journey and the experience of being creative like we used to be. If something useful comes out of it, so be it :-) Can I work on more than one Hypercard project? Of course! There is not limit ... Who is participating? Bolkonskij Knezzen mac-cellar MTT (possibly) And the secret participants yet to be revealed :-) Where can we talk about it? Here in this thread of course :-) |

Alright, just pushing this one up ... 3 days to go! Get your Hypercard installed on the hard disk :-) We'll reveal the topic of this challenge on the 22nd. Really excited and looking forward to it! :-)

How are your projects coming along? I started a bit belated yesterday evening and got a draft for an idea up. Struggling a bit with struggling on just ONE idea. :-)

Getting started here... been under the weather for several days and haven't had much energy. Just a slow start though - hoping to make real progress over the weekend.

Same here and with Knezzen. BUT! This is a three week contest and 2 1/2 remain. And then again, the idea is to be creative and having fun with Hypercard and not feeling pressure to "deliver something" (as in a job). Meanwhile, I've had my fair share of frustration with Hypercard. I tried to import some pictures that originated as a PNG. I then went and turned them into 1-bit b&w and saved them as a jpg file (which Hypercard should understand). My problem is that these photos are still quite big and they chew up space in a Hypercard stack, in effect, throwing an "out of memory" error. Does anyone know how to circumvent that? Any know-how on handling of pictures in Hypercard? I need to dig up my manual ...

Convert the images to pict format, the native QuickDraw format?

I need. They're still too big for my (and Hypercard's) taste. I need to tinker with the settings in Graphic Converter / Photoshop or find a dedicated image compression tool. I'll report back

I think this is perhaps a bit out of topic, but it deals with HyperCard. The other evening I was bouncing around watching YouTube Videos, which of course are not System 7 friendly. I came across an old YouTube video about the “new” System 7. < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OPqVHP00tc&t=1348s> (not even close to retro compatible.) There is a segment where they talk about using the new Apple Events, with a fellow demonstrating using Apple Events. The Demo consisted of moving data from HyperCard to Claris resolve, using a HyperCard button to tell Resolve to make a chart, then moving the chart into HyperCard. It was a first for me. I had never seen HyperCard being used not only in conjunction with another application, but being used to control the other application. Just amazing to see new capabilities being used in HyperCard after all this time. The video covers other new features in System7 as well, like Publish and Subscribe which I do not thing ever saw that much use. Kind of a fun watch.

Yes, I know this Computer Chronicles episode. You can watch them on a Macintosh with Quicktime on S7T sister page http://www.cornica.org/ It's in individual segments instead of one big 30 min clip, but it's all there and you can watch it even on an old Quadra and immediately try out the stuff they show

Two more days, guys! And my Mac IIci just gave me the chime of death. (@knezzen - sent you a video, check your phone) Unfortunately, my Hypercard stack for the challenge is on it. :-/ Now looking into what the culprit is (bad RAM, maybe?) and fix it up, but I may not be able to finish the challenge :-(
