So I kind of liked the challenge idea because it set a goal in using System 7 on my IIci for a week, albeit unspecific. Yesterday, while lying in bed and trying to fall asleep I had an idea (that place and the loo are the best places for idea generation, aren't they? :-) ).

I figured, if we can do a System 7 challenge, why can't we do a specific System 7 program challenge? I'm thinking about something along the lines of a multiple weeks challenge like

Use Hypercard on System 7 to create something that has to do with "car(s)"

The idea wouldn't be to pressure yourself to deliver an outstanding application or game (though nobody will mind :-)), but rather seeing the journey as the reward. Diving into an application and doing creative work on our System 7 machines like we used to.

You could come up with a hand-pixeled image of a car to share - or a car database, maybe? Or how about a wonderful 1-bit graphics presentation of your (favorite) car model? Or maybe even a car game?

Creativity and creating something would be key! I think doing this here on the forum with ya'll and sharing the experience would quadruple the fun level, if enough of us participate.

What do you guys think? Does that sound interesting? Is that a challenge you'd like to participate in?

Wow! What a great idea! I love it! We should do a list of potential applications and challenges perhaps?

I am a big fan of HyperCard and enjoy seeing things done in HyperCard. One thing I always that would be nice to see for HyperCard is a utility that would allow for importing data into a HyperCard stack.

There is a lot of data to be found that is either in a csv format or can be easily exported into that format. It would be nice to be able to directly pull that data into a stack and be placed into proper card fields automatically.

Appleworks 4 (or maybe 5) finally allowed for a database to be displayed in spreadsheet a style. It would have been nice if it has been able to move from an AppleWorks/ClarisWorks database to a HyperCard stack.

I'd take part in that if only I knew how to write hypercard programs. Where does one go to learn how?

Cool, I'll throw that program up on my PowerBook 170 when I get back from vacation and try it out.

The Web Archive contains thousands upon thousands of HC stacks, often bundled in huge collections of their own.

I would like to warn you not to get lost in there as I did, or it'll take you days just to download a fraction of them.

I'd love to try this - always up for diving into Hypercard.
