I was visiting our local "Good Will" store where folks donate things in good shape they don't need and feel sorry to trash. I noticed they have two big boards with DVDs now. Everything from regular movies to complete series. Because people tend to throw out their DVDs amass they set the prices for these DVDs at 20 to 50 cents each to sell them off as quickly as possible. Euro cents that is. Still, this is an amazing steal given each DVD once cost like 10 - 15 euro just a few years ago. I loaded up on some stuff for watching with the family (e.g. Truman Show, Paul Blart: Mall Cop) and some stuff for me to watch (The Big Lebowski etc) and paid only as much as the cheapest Starbucks Coffee would cost me. That said, I think the best time to buy DVDs is now. Extremely cheap to buy, still widely available and you have a physical copy no streaming service can cancel because of licensing issues. If you like to keep a digital copy of your DVD, that's also easily done with certain tools. I guess after this point DVDs will start to get more scarce, with some titles probably going up in prices again as they get more rare and people start retro DVD collections. Are you guys among the DVD collectors or do you throw them out as well? |

Same for music CDs, which I have started collecting as most of them are really cheap.

Interesting that you bring up this topic. I've been buying hundreds of CDs and DVDs these past few weeks and am busy digitizing my fav. multimedia galleries and movies 24/7. Specially rare English titles that are difficult to find anywhere else. I prefer to buy them in bulk on mediamops or eBay. Mostly classics from the 70-90s, like Phantasm. Phase IV or Project Forbin.

Our public library has a good selection of DVD titles, movies and tv series. The cost is the walk to the village to pick up or return

I don't think I've ever bought a DVD - bit too modern for me! Got plenty of audio CDs though. It's a long time since I paid full price for one, but always have a browse whenever I see a cheap selection. It's a low risk way of trying out artists you're not so familiar with.
