So, I've been playing around with emulating the old little cookie box (aka Nintendo GameBoy) on my System 7 machines. You know, the black & white original GameBoy?

So far I've tried out Virtual Gameboy but the thing needs Appearance Manager and more oomph while it doesn't do things much better. (at least in the 1.4 version I've tested)

Much better than what? Well, there is GBMac. It's from Japan. The docs are Japanese. The program is not. And it's fast. It's really well-coded and ran all 5-6 original titles I've thrown at it.

Best thing is, this little GameBoy emulator even comes in a 68k version though it really asks for a Quadra to run stuff with a meaningful speed. It's available on the Mac Garden (http link!)

Does anyone know / remember other GameBoy emulators for System 7 ? I know Boycott but that's for the GameBoy Advance, not the original Game Boy.

Just to update that one - I've since settled with GBMac. It seems like the best on System 7 / 68k there is. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it seems to have trouble with some of the new homebrew games that I was itching to try out.

Still, it does a decent job, so if you're looking for playing Final Fantasy on your System 7 Mac ;-)
