And its only a partial view. I've got knowledge DBs for IT, Book Writing and private info. I used to write all that down with Java apps like Zettelkasten. But as nice as the texts composed with it look when finished, that tool's editor just sucks.

And while Linux offers some mind-mapping tools of its own, they either look like they got written by some first trimester student (which they probably were) or they are so cumbersome to work with - because they insist to connect to half a dozen back-end services - that they slow everything down to a crawl.

As bizarre as it might sound, but short of renting some commercial Windoze app (because you can no longer purchase most of them), those vintage Mac MindMapping tools are the best to be had - even today.

I combine it with Spell Catcher and a few symbol char sets (because NPD allows for in-text formatting) and can thus spellcheck & structure my texts into lists with bullet points and table like features.

And with the help of IceTee I can even embed graphic files into each note.

You (ab)use it to have the browser call the helper app registered for that image type. Works for audio and video files, too.
