Dear all, I have recently purchased a wedge-shaped ADB mouse. Unfortunately the metal coupler is warped and it is misaligned with the female socket on my Mac. Also, the black plastic 'clip' between the bottom two pins is broken. Unfortunately this means the plug doesn't insert into the socket, and I am worried that I'll damage the socket on the Mac if I force it or crudely bend it back into shape. I thought, would it be possible to buy something like this. And repair it manually? Anyone had any success here? Thanks |

ADB and S-Video do use the same connector. It should not be assumed that the cables are interchangeable however. There are many wiring diagrams for the ADB pin out on-line. You should have little trouble replacing a bad ADB connector with an S-Video connector. You should also be able to cut one end off an S-Video cable and make the cable connections inside the mouse, making for a very nice clean looking repair.

Can you not send it back and buy one without the broken end. I keep meaning to use my wedge mouse instead of the later one. I prefer the look of the old wedge. Think i only paid £5-6 for mind but that a while ago.

Alas, grey S-Video or 4-pin DIN cables are impossible to find. Looks like the wire (or at least the connector) will have to be black. @Neal, thanks for the offer, I'll let you know if I need any help. Going to see how far I get with the wiring diagrams. Though it is difficult finding ADB resources on DDG because the acronym has been appropriated by one Android Debug Bridge! I did find this on Google: https://old.pinouts.ru/Slots/apple_adb_pinout.shtml Also I may have spotted a CD separate in the background. My curiosity is piqued. Would you mind sharing your AV setup in another thread? I've just a small turntable and amp setup myself, and I would argue that life's too short for poor audio.

Haha Actually it’s a Sony dat machine for mastering recordings but really its for the flashing uv meters. It sound a silly answer but have you emailing Apple? I find they’re actually helpful as they’re curious about people using old gear. Haha you noticed the matching Palm. I think it’s actually a palm 3 vx or something. I brought the broken 3e translucent for £3 and a another broken screened normal palm 3 to make 1 working one. I rarely use it but have matrix code on it because it’s cool I would like to setup and use the calendar. I’ll get around to it one day. So what are you using in your studio?

Silly idea but wouldn't it be cool if a Palm could run Mac OS, too?

It has the same 16mhz motorola 68030 processor. Be it a later dragon ball cut down version. So in theory it has the same hardware as my se/30

Wow! ![]() I think I remembered reading something on it and my mind wandered to that idea, the thought of its tiny keyboard and stylus.. basically an itsy bitsy Mac in your pocket (waaaay before smartphones came and stole the show ) but instead of a little emulator like Mini vMac and BII, you'd have a more legit 68k Mac OS running on it (now that's a neat retro idea! )

Haha, throw in some apricot and Acorns and you have the mega mix! ![]() I find it funny how acorn computers invented the Arm processor in 1987 based on a usa research paper on risc, built for its Archimedes line, it didn’t really sell to well with Apple and IBM/clones taking hold and yet now 35 years later after acorn spun off there processors into Arm holdings even the apple M1 is Arm based and you have Arm unix and windows servers. Well everything is seemingly Arm based now. It could have taken a very different path no 68000, powerpc or intel based macintosh’s for the entire time!
