SO I actually did some updates on my mac a couple of years ago. I recapped the logic board, put in a SCSI adapter in place of the HD, and installed a Nubus network card. I recently decided to pull it out of the garage and Tinker. The game changer has been setting up FTP from my PC to the mac. Anyways, Ill be cruzing around the forums. Cheers!

Welcome Marauder to our friendly little community !! :-)

The Performa 600 is a lovely System 7 machine and quite capable despite it's age. (avid Mac IIci user here :) ). Hope you'll find some good practical use for it and we'll see you posting.

Can you actually browse the forum here with it using e.g. Internet Explorer 4 or iCab 2.9.9?

Hi and welcome, Marauder! :)

I recall the seeing Mac IIvi and hearing of it's more powerful sibling, the IIvx, and later on the Centris 650 models, of which the Performa 600 is closest matched to the IIvi specs but the IIvx processor. This is a Mac of very nice form build and speed indeed! It's faster than the IIci, the model these Macs succeeded, and indeed a Mac perfectly matched for System 7, the OS that it came with at the time! 8)

We'll be happy to share in all of the wonderful exploits you try out on it, and certainly the networking aspect makes it more fun to tinker on the software side, especially when you can forego the floppies and just transfer files via FTP! Likewise, I also setup an HTTP server from mine that works similarly since it also allow uploads from my Mac to the PC :D

You might also want to give QuickPopUp a try, more of a test really, to send chat messages between your Mac and PC; it's a recent addition to the Mac Garden ;) http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/quickpopup

Welcome Marauder,
Yes nifty machine that. Yes the initial getting apps back and forth is definitely a stumbling block i found for my se/30. It was parked for a while too. I finally got it going with a more modern bridge machine 6200 and it changed everything being able to download software and tinker, been doing do ever since. New here to. Nice bunch and full of useful ideas/tweaks and projects. Just post and ask someone will likely know :)

Neal
