As you guys know, System 7 Today is less on the "preserving" or "collecting" aspect of things, but more on the actual use of our beloved operating system.

Over the years, I've collected a lot of tutorials (mostly 90's text + images docs) with application specific tips & tricks. I had been posting some of it for Word 5 in this thread for example but there's waaaay more, from Photoshop to MacWrite II and back.

As a bonus, I also have AOL discussion logs for these applications. Photoshop creator John Knoll discussing features & stuff with folks like Kai Krause back in 1992! Some of that is an amazing read and still holds a lot of unique info. (unique as in - you don't find this info ANYWHERE on the web (anymore).

I've been wondering if that is something somebody else is interested in?
Is that a good idea to add to System 7 Today?
The Word 5 thread response has been zero, so I'm not sure if there's actually anyone really interested?

Also, if we decide to provide it, should we do this as PDF, as HTML3 docs ... or else?

Wow, I must have missed your great little tips on Word 5 last month, and that's one of my favorite word processors, too! I must have been busy with the family for the July 4th national celebration since the family loves to get together during the holidays! :o

As far as the format for these, being that they are pretty simple write-ups, as much as PDF has been the go-to for documentation and you can cajole old web-browsers to open PDF files with the Adobe Acrobat web-plugins, I always found Adobe a little bit of overkill, at least in 68k Macs, compared to PPC Macs running System 7.

One approach might be to provide this small tip library in a multiple formats like:

∙ HTML3 first for the grandpappy Macs out there! :D
∙ PDF for faster Macs that can wiz through those ;)
∙ I'm partial to those read-only fancier read-me text formats, those that show up as little newspapers :)
∙ Some read-me's also come as simple PICT files which open easily in all Macs as well
∙ lastly, a snazzy self-opening e-doc might be nice, although that may need to be binhexed, right?

I just don't know if those fancy text docs have any forks that could get stripped online (but I think that's more for programs like the edocs?)

Or how about the ebook format?? :o
