Ok I have a Powerbook G4 867 Tibook so OS 9 is my choice but to me OS X is great but OS 7-9 is what I started with. I am wanting to go back to OS 9. It always been what I pref'd. Anyway I am going to copy and paste some of my other information as its easier. I also have a Powerbook 500 series with a PPC in it. I would love to get OS 7 on it but I need a OS 7 cd or discs and pref a SCSI cdrom plus a bigger SCSI HD for it as it def used a different HD type. Anyway I have a FS/FT thread on it. So back to this. After thinking about it I really do miss it and while I will Keep OS X Tiger on here for the things I will need it for I want to make OS 9 work. Its what I remember and its what I miss the most. Heres what I have questions on, what I am looking into and what i think I have found out so far lol. This is the system I am on: Powerbook G4 Tibook 867 with the radeon 9000. I notice a lot of mention on the 7000 so I am worried about this system working well with that. Here is what I spend my time doing on the net and the lappy: Checking forums, my space, amv forums, homestarrunner.com (Sorry I am easily amussed sometimes and *shrug* I just find it funny :p ) I make music videos and my sources are in RM, WMV, MOV, Divx. I love to watch and play my movies to so I really want to know if this is possible. I remember it being a big problem before esp with WMV/ASF files. I use FCPro 5, I have version 3-4 as well (I might even still have 2) but honestly enough I HATE it. I used another program that I am sure is still around on my many back ups from my G4 Ti 550. Anyway I don't mind if I have to stick with X for that as I am finally getting used to FC5 whhen Vegas Video has been one of my main reasons for keeping a pc around all the time (LOL and it gives me something to do, when my wife slows it down and breaks things I get to fix them :p ) But if i can woohoo lol. Listening to music should be easy I remember a program called Sound Jam that was just what I liked. its also on your main page lol. Can't remember how it takes WMA files but I guess we shall see. Pictures theres always graphics converter which I have loved for years. Hotline is still around I am sure. I wonder if photoshop I was using then is still there lol. CS2 is not going to work :p IM Systems I use are yahoo, msn, aol. basically educate me guys. I am def excited to get back to what i really pref lol. Besides the video formats and other questions I forgot, does the Twain driver on Graphic Converter still work with most new Digital Cameras Well looking into things and seems like the best web browser is iCab or Opera 6. Seems WACOM I believe is another option. I remember iCab supposedly it was still getting updates of both OS x and 9 from the las thread I just read: June 19th is all I can see unfortantly. SO the hunt continues... lol I should probably make a different thread about all this :p have to look for the right section ![]() Ok thats everything combined. Lets see where it ends up. |

Ok heres what I am DLing and backup now to use: iCab 3 Beta http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/2061#news This looks like a good File Share Program: (while looking at Limewire 4.0.10 I remembered the Plug Icon... Boy that brings back memorys) Cabos http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/25827 This looks like a great solution to Hotline as I am pretty sure it has not seen an update in some time: DefBot http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/25827 I remember Joliet File Access so I am looking for that. I also found this I will see if its something better or just as useful: Adaptec UDF Volume Access http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/26220 And heres Joliet: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/8017 Everyone Needs Divx for movies lol: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/24979 Since I am used to it now but still not fond of it here is Toast 5.2.3 for OS 9: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/86 (I still think there is something better out there) Apples QT Mpeg-2 Codec: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/19825 Ok there is a ton more and I am DEF looking foro experianced users to point me to new or different things. Esp on windows media player files above ver 7 that we have a player for. Have not seen anything yet. I guess conversion is the only way soo if anyone has anything let me know!

There is a better OS 9 Mozilla client than WAMCOM. It is just the standard Mozilla client. I forget where it is though. I don't do OS 9 anymore.

I used the iCab Beta on OS X Tiger last night really quickly and it loaded pages great so I think I am going to give it a run and see how it goes.

icab works on 7.6 and up. But it can massacre pages that are formated with basic tables. It's very slow and I'm not sure where it get's it's javascript validation from. On older systems I have to recomend IE, hated to say it but it does a decent job. Opera is quirky. Works but like most older browsers, has limits.

I got stalled as the hinges in my Ti Book finally went. So I again tore it apart to do the repair. Only this time it was much easier the soldering the new chip on the Motherboard for the Display lol. All seems well but I am not going to push it for a day or more just to see how it does. I want to make sure the compound reaches 100% full strength. Anyway I agree and I have found a G3 233 and a fully G3 laptop on eBay. I will keep an eye on them. However I loved the 3400c so I still want to find a 240 and pull it apart to OC it as well. Our forums creator seems to have done it and I want to see with all the custom work on laptops I have done just how far I can push it.

Ok sorry for the delay I got side tracked pulling the motor in my car and just today overclocking the Tibook to 1.2Ghz. Now to install OS 9 and get back to what I was doing here lol. So far I have found that as with most some things just will not be possible, one being WMV movies that are above 7. So most of them it seems like. I am still looking for a work around but who isn't lol. I have been playying with iCab in OS X and it seems to be pretty solid so i will stick with it as mentioned before. With the OC of the laptop I have been trying to see if anyone had any side effects with OS 9 so if you know anyone who has OC'd a ti book that info would be great!

I have overclocked my 400Mhz G4 to 500Mhz. I wouldnt suggest a heavy overclock, as the heatsinks on these things dont really leave much room for breathing. But my little OC worked fine. b

I am looking at what i can do to beef up the Heatsink in the unit I just replaced the GPU heatsink with copper ones. Next will be the Chipset heatsink and then probably just some Artic Silver 5 on the heatsink for the CPU since it has those heat pipes. I also changed the fans setup and made the flow blow on the processor as well as push air out the back. I hope that helps as well. It seems hot but the GPU is def cooler and after the chipset is cooler I think things will be perfect. As for now it reminds me of the heat my wallstreet used to make lol.
