I knew that the G4 processor had a velocity engine, i just assumed that the software code was called altivec. Is carbon part of the code? My terms are in the wrong spots. My appology for incorrect information. |

Carbon is an API (programming environment would be a good analogy) that can take advantage of the AltiVec hardware in the G4 (and G5 for that matter). AltiVec is a set of SIMD instructions - you can perform the same instruction on multiple data elements in parallel, so you can get certain things done alot faster.
