So we quite spontaniously decided to get a Hotline server up and running as a complement to the community. We already have the IRC bridge and Jabber server, but that's more of a bridge to the new world rather than something made for the System 7 era of machines.

The server is up and running on hotline.system7today.com and is awaiting your participation ;)

What we do with the file part of the server is up to us, the community, to decide, but me and Bolkonskij had an idea to use the file area for code snippets and other development type stuff. But anything goes. It should be seen as complement to the rest of the site and the forum.

Join us for some chatting and discuss the future of the site, the platform and of course the Hotline server.

I hope we meet there! :)

Client suggestions (for everyone!):

HotStuff! (68k & PowerPC 7.1 and up, OSX 10.1 - 10.6)

Hotline Connect 1.2.3 (68k 7.1 and up)

Panorama 1.1.1 (PowerPC 7.6.1 and up)

GLoarbLine (PowerPC 7.6.1 and up)

Pitbull Pro (PowerPC Mac OS 8.6 and up)

Frogblast (PowerPC OSX 10.2 and up)

Nostalgia (Intel OSX 10.6 and up)

Obsession (Intel OSX 10.4 and up)

Yes! We're online almost every day, so drop by and chat for a bit.
Just to add to the list of features; we now support encrypted communication between the server and the client if you use a client that supports it (like GLoarbLine).

Happy chatting!

Hotline is alive and well and I recently updated the hotline server software and added some chat bots. The bots bridge the Macintosh Garden Discord server to our Hotline server.

Come join us for some Mac chat and file sharing fun ;)

Question on Hotline 1.2.3 (68k) - is it normal for the client to hijack the Finder?  For example: I tried to open the Notepad while using Hotline Client - I heard a system beep and saw the flashing Mac in the top right corner indicating that the Finder had popped up a message.  The Finder option in the drop-down list was greyed out.

Does this have anything to do with the "evaluation' version of the client that I have?  Perhaps there is a serial somewhere I don't know about?

On 7.1 that happens. The main menubar uses a window type that doesn't exist in 7.1 and it renders as a modal window, effectively locking the whole application as you describe it. I have been trying to get around it somehow, but failed. Don't know if Bolkonskij found a solution or not.

On another note, the Hotline server is becoming more and more popular.

Ah, very interesting.  I am using 7.1 on the Quadra so that explains it.

Yes and even I felt so lonely out there ...

Btw. I am not "fanatic", just stubbornly convinced. :D

As we are a widespread community sometimes the time differences can get in the way.

That's a good one, scouter!

Can be found at Cornica as well and is viewable from an old Mac from there.
Watching it in Classilla on my TiBook as I write this :)

Added the awesome Panorama Hotline client fogWraith stumbled upon yesterday. It's truly my new favorite client. Give it a go and join us for a Mac OS centric chat! :)

I'm also working on revamping another Hotline client which I successfully managed to backport to 68k. More info to come ;)
