As some of you may remember, I use a relatively modern Kyocera FS-1370DN printer that is connected to my home network for (postscript) printing from my 8600 (still digging WriteNow and AppleWorks ;-) ). Until recently I had this printer icon sitting on my desktop after initial config via Chooser. The icon basically allows "Desktop Printing" (aka drag and drop a doc onto it and it will print). I for one don't need this functionality as all I want is occasional "old-style printing" via Command + P.

Here's the solution to get rid of this functionality while preserving classic printing and also optimizing your extensions. Just head to your System's Extension folder and delete (better: move to another folder)

Desktop Printer Spooler
Desktop Printer Extension

That's 2 items less in your Extensions folder and about 480kb saved. :-)

Thought I'd share it with you. Probably it's an age old thing but I really just ran into it.

Thanks for this reminder!  Desktop Printing makes me nuts just because it puts something else on my desktop :).
