Is there a download version available too, or does it require shipment of a physical medium? I am not in the US and at usually stuck at rather remote locations. So both import hassles and delivery problems would be an issue for me.

poly.play ships from Germany, if that helps? I think there's a download version on the author's website (for a donation) but the real fun is to have a boxed physical copy coming with hints and stuff, isn't it? It's like playing an Infocom game without the feelies. You can technically play it, but it isn't the same immersive experience, isn't it?

Thumbs up for being another interactive fiction / text adventure fan on the S7T forums! ;)

If it ships from Europe I'll give it a try. Christmass will be coming early for me this year I guess ;-)

Did you order yours, 68040? If I were you, I'd ask about availability before ordering.

Oh nice!!! :)

That was a looong wait though, but I really hope it's worth it ;) I'd rather wait and get a nicely-programmed piece of software than a rushed mess, but you've been waiting for this order for months!! :(

I got my copy! So happy, feels like Christmas, guys. It's a professional release. In fact, this feels like buying an Infocom game during the 80's! Professional packaging very much in style of Infocom (check the product description on the backside and you'll see what I mean). Here are two photos I just took:

Coming in at about 40€ this is probably the cheapest trip back in history to get. Weekend, here I come! ;-)

I won't spoil the fun for those of you who ordered theirs but I gotta say, this is pure 80's magic. I had a good laugh when I dragged this thing here out of the box:

http://images.macintosh.garden/2022/01/08/regcard.jpg

They seriously included one of those registration cards to be mailed back with a customer survey. Love it! No question I'm going to send mine in. LOL.

The great news is that the box also contains a coupon that grants you 25% off on Hibernated 2! The checkboxes on it also contain Macintosh, so we can safely assume Hibernated 2 will be released for 68k Macs as well :)

So, I played Hibernated yesterday evening for the first time. I'll try not to spoil anything. The packaging is incredibly professional as is the 800k 3M floppy. (there's also a SD card included for emulator users)

The game is written in Infocom's Z-Machine standard and run via an interpreter on the Mac. So you insert the floppy, start the interpreter, load the game file and create a stand-alone app that you place on your hard disk. I don't understand why they wouldn't just "compile" that app beforehand, add a nice icon and put that on a floppy?

Hibernated on the Mac is pretty bare-bones in terms of presentation. Whereas "The Queen's Footsteps" offered at least a nice b&w intro pic, here you're immediately thrown into the "action".

But that's about the only negatives (if you consider them so) I have to say about Hibernated. I've been playing yesterday evening for three hours and had some great fun. Mapping with MacDraw while playing, like in the old days. Think I'll put the map on my Mac OS games Cheat Emporium once I finish Hibernated.

I stopped playing yesterday evening when I was stuck and getting tired at around 23:00, only to wake up this morning and knowing what I had missed! Switched on the IIci before breakfast and finally solved that puzzle :-)

From what I can tell is that Hibernated DC is a fair game, the difficulty is medium, no comparison to the devilish Infocom games. I have yet to encounter any annoying design choices (e.g. timing). The plot is great if you're into classic Sci-Fi stuff. I'm really looking forward to experience the rest of the story and how it ends. But first, I have to find out how to trick that glass slab ...

Anyone else got his box already?

Stuck... I could really use a sparring partner now? @68040, didn't you particularly enjoy Infocom style interactive fiction too? ;-)

Playing Infocom used to be a semi-religion for me. I admit that I spend part of my pimple faced youth exploring their worlds, that I should have rather spend getting wasted in someone else's party cellar.  :-O

Party cellars are overrated, especially when you're 18. With 40, the choice between "getting wasted" in a party cellar or playing a new Infocom-style adventure on your 68k Mac is an easy one :D

Seriously, what are you waiting for? Order the box as per hyperlink in the first post and join the adventure! You don't get many chances to snatch up a beautiful boxed Macintosh game that breathes Infocom like this one! Besides, it'll make a strong proof that the 68k Mac is still a viable platform for new releases.

(plus I'm still stuck and need a 'rubber duck' to talk to ;-) )

You know, I may be inclined to send them A PayPal donation just for what they've put out, not boxed software needed, even if I never play the game myself.. it's just inspiring to think that folks are putting out content for this fine vintage OS, you know? :)

I agree! It's always worth, especially when mentioning "thanks for the 68k Mac version" to show the scene is pretty much alive.

But hey, you should play it! Hibernated is rather approachable and makes a good start into the genre. Not too difficult and has an interesting Sci-Fi story.

Let yourself get sucked into the world of interactive fiction! If you need to get into the mood, there's a great podcast about the Infocom classics out there to listen to while you commute to work. ;-)
